Did you figure this out? I'm having the same issue connecting to a 5ghz network as well. Can't even connect to my phone hotspot on 5ghz
2.4ghz works fine
I just tried it again later, after moving the console to its actual docking spot in the shelf, and then it connected just fine.

I didn't have any problems with the Switch 2 yet. The big screen is very welcome, a lot better than my OG switch, I am old and going blind perhaps, but the increased size is very welcome by me. The sound quality undocked is way better than before, the speakers are nice.

The joycons are way more comfortable than the previous generation, the slight size increase makes a huge difference when using them stand alone. I still have to check the wireless range of the new joycons, I was very annoyed by how bad the range was in the original ones.

The console feels really light for its screen size, specially compared with my Steam Deck, my hands and arms welcome this too.

What else?... Unfortunately the console doesn't work with my very portable USB-C PD100 hubs with HDMI, I mean I can't use it to connect to the monitor/TV like I did with the old Switch, bummer. Etc.

The console is OK I guess, as I said I think it is a very nice upgrade.
Regarding the games, I've played the following:
  • Mario Kart World: It's fine I guess, but I prefer MK8DX, for me world lacks this competitive feeling that you could improve your skill, perfect tracks, feel good... World also feels so slow, I guess not having 200cc is a problem for me.
  • Fast Fusion: Damn great game for only 14.99€, I consider this the best Switch 2 game up to date.
  • Zelda TOTK Switch 2 upgrade: It really feels way better to play Zelda at 60FPS, and the resolution is much improved; also the stupid Nintendo App connection / GPS mode that makes your phone guide you to those couple shrines and stuff you missed is... interesting... I mean I enjoy it.
  • No Man Sky Switch 2 upgrade: Well, that is a great upgrade. But I would like some more fluidity, like a performance mode or something, decrease the resolution and give me something closer to 60FPS?
  • Some old Switch games I tried:
    • YS VIII: Works exactly like on Switch 1, meh. It would be great if they at least uncapped the framerate to 60FPS, I hope somehow this happens some day.
    • The Sexy Brutale: This was a little nice game that ran like shit on Switch 1. It still runs like shit on Switch 2, very much the same... As Tequila Works is quite dead/out of business I don't think this will ever improve.
    • Fast RMX: Works exactly like on Switch 1, only checked what a great game it was, played for a bit again... still Fusion is better.
    • There are a couple of games I wanted to check but I still don't, but I am quite sure they will run the same as on Switch 1, I hope they get a free upgrade some day, among those games are: 1) Xenoblade Chronicles X, 2) Xenoblade Chronicles 2, 3) Xenoblade Chronicles 3, 4) Astral Chain, etc.
I didn't get a Pro Controller 2; I don't see a reason to upgrade from my Pro Controller 1 that still works fine. Also the BIGBIGWON R100 dongles that allowed you to connect PS4/PS5/XBOX controllers to the Switch 1 still work perfectly fine on the Switch 2.

In Summary: The console is fine, a big improvement for portable play if you have no 20/20 vision, it is still light enough not to break your wrist, it breaks compatibility with (at least some) old usb-c hdmi dongles, PRO controller 1 works fine and I see no need to upgrade, MK World is not my cup of tea I prefer MK8DX, and Fast Fusion is the best game on the console IMHO.

It’s just a shame that most S1 games are going to look stretched and blurry by default without developer patches.

I’m not going to be influenced by the toxic positivity into believing they are not, I’m looking at it myself.

The Switch 2 also has high persistence blur from having low pixel responsiveness. So you get panel blur in motion, big downgrade from the OLED.

Other than that, the console feels nice to hold and Mario Kart is fun.

Just going to keep my CFW S1 around, and playing S1 games overclocked. The Switch 2 will be for Switch 2 only games for the foreseeable future.

Having used the switch 2 for 24 hours I have to admit it’s lighter than the oled, the image quality is good, it plays old switch 1 games very well, so far I’ve played stray, Neva, dreamlight valley and the games definitely load faster. Stray loading times are improved, there are no frame drops or lag on the switch 2 when playing stray and I get better performance than I do out of my gaming pc, I get so many frame drops using a rtx 4060 and a 13th gen i5, but it’s smooth on the switch 2

It feels nice in hand, not u comfortable like the steam deck or oled after playing for 30 mins.

The new rune factory looks amazing on switch 2

I play handheld and can nearly hear the fan and it doesn’t get hot. Better life could be better but I can’t complain

lol the new post popup thing is so confusing i did the same

8bitdo just released a new firmware for their controllers & adapters to support the S2. So for me, there's no need t get a pro controller because I can use the dualsense or the dualshock instead of paying another 100 bucks.

One of my consoles has unexpectedly gone into sleep mode about 3 or 4 times, all while in handheld mode iirc. Not sure if it’s a software or hardware issue, and I’m unsure how to proceed since I want to stay on low firmware.

I do agree, it would be nice if we could launch OG Switch games in "docked mode" on the Switch 2 in handheld mode, that would be an easy way to get 1080p support without patching games.

Yes most Switch games work on the Switch 2, I do feel with a little more work it could be a far superior experience.

I wonder how many developers are realistically going to patch games that have been out a few years? just allowing 1080p and removing the 30fps cap would do a lot for many games I suspect.

Am I the only one who think the battery drain way too fast ?
Even on home menu I lost 2 % after a few minute, it's really bad for a new console of 2025. Maybe it needs a few charge cycle, I hope so...

Did you noticed that you can update your Joy con too? Cause it wasn't automatic in my case...

Not a great experience for me so far... I'm having really annoying Bluetooth issues, but only when the Switch is docked. When playing Mario Kart, I sometimes get random input lag or incorrect inputs. One of my controllers disconnects if I’m just a meter away. My Bluetooth headphones also disconnect every minute, and the audio is very choppy. But when I take the Switch out of the dock, everything works perfectly — even when using headphones and the switch 2 Pro controller. I'm considering sending it in for repairs. Is anyone else having the same problem?

I have seen that complain many times in different sites and Youtube videos, so you are not the only one.
For me... I didn't notice much of it because 1) I configured the console to only charge to 90% while docked so when I take it out is not full anyway, this somehow makes me always think "oh, it was not fully charged anyway", 2) I haven't had time to play with it on the go, only just took it to the sofa and to the porcelain throne... but anyways I still have this feeling that it discharges faster than I would like.

I didn't have this problem, in fact the bluetooth works way better than on the Switch 1 for me, the joycon range is quite bigger without having input problems. I believe something may be wrong with your unit.

I was thinking that, I do have the option enabled to only charge to 90%. Sometimes that does seem to charge lower though and stop around 85%, so after a little bit of playing that can soon be 20% gone without really doing much.

I'd estimate I get around 2 hours playtime on Mario Kart World at 50% screen brightness with the 90% charge option enabled. If I was actually going somewhere and not playing around the house I'd probably disable that and let it charge to 100%.

I'm amazed at how the S2 era is exactly what I never imagined the gaming industry would be.

A new Nintendo console was meant to be a great wonder of all times with a revolutionary world to explore. But not this time.

- A brand new console without games (remakes and upscales, yeah)
- Not even a new Mario platform game.
- A MK title that should be released on the previously system, because MK on Switch 1 came from the U.
- Oh.. and the Key card system.. it reminds me something... "Thank you, but your game is on another place"!!
- Everything is overpriced and seen as an opportunity to make money (console, games, Demos!!, DLCs.. game controllers, camera, online play...). Money should be made from great games.

It looks like a scam to me =(
Thanks but no thanks.

My impressions is that it's largely a scam. Just a couple of tech upgrades and titles that aren't memorable to me. Things like the magnetic Joy-Cons could've been made for the original Nintendo Switch.

-They made zero changes to the Joy-con analog sticks. They feel just as cheap compared to the switch 1 versions and it's only a matter of time when stick drift sets in. I'm avoiding using these to preserve them for when I NEED them for a game (like Warioware or multiplayer).

-I was pleasantly surprised that Mayflash Magic NS works with the Switch 2 (as others have mentioned). I'm using my
EasySMX X20 controller and it works great.

-Ethernet on the dock was necessary and they at least delivered on this.

That's about it for the positives.

Unless you're Mario Kart junkie, or this your only means to play games (you don't own a capable gaming PC, PS5 or Xbox One), it's definitely not worth it for now.

I only wanted to buy it to ensure I had the first hardware version for hacking purposes down the line. That, and I've owned every single American Nintendo console (unless you call the virtual boy a console), so I have to keep up with that tradition.

It's a bit too similar to the Switch, as I feared. One of the stores near me had dozen of them in stock, which isn't a good sign.

But Mario Kart is fun, and the mouse functions works really well. It isn't a big leap. Also, the introduction game should have been free and included, not paying 10 bucks for that.

I did see Pokemon Violet also getting a Switch 2 upgrade, I'm curious how it performs now. Will test that later.
Actually having something in stock and not sold out is bloody great! Sick of new items coming out and boom no stock, price rises etc its not a bad thing for them to actualy plan to have stock

What I like
  • bigger Joycons (got big hands over here)
  • backwards compatibility
  • 4K HDR support (theoretically at least) which is nice since I bought a new TV last year
  • performance (especially loading times) of Switch 1 games
    • both big Zelda games are a major improvement and a completely different experience
    • despite owning a few Switch 2 games including MKW and Cyberpunk, I currently play the good old indie game Sky Force Reloaded as the non-existant loading times are a blessing and it makes more fun on the bigger device
  • Welcome Tour which I only bought due to the lack of quantity of launch games but it's actually really nice (I still think they should have given it away for free though)
  • Second USB-C port
  • the bigger screen...
What I dislike
  • ...that could have been even bigger and OLED! We all know it's coming. It sucks to start off with the LCD. Seriously, Nintendo.
  • NSO retro games
    • coming from RetroArch on my modded OLED, I really don't like those NSO titles... not only because of the limited quantity of games (that's somehow understandable due to licensing) but because of the fact that you can't buy them... they are only there temporarily while you're subscribed and while Nintendo's servers are still online, both of which probably won't be the case in 10 or 20 years so they are gone from that console forever which is super stupid
  • Lack of options in MKW and where the f*cking hell is the 200 ccm mode? Are you f*cking kidding me, Nintendo?
  • again a stupid proprietary display port protocoll so neither Genki Covert Dock nor AceFast nor anything else works with it... I've yet to find a good travel "dock" to rule them all (Switch 1 + 2 + Steam Deck)
  • the C-Button is the biggest disappointment to me as I was hoping it stands for "Cast" aka the Switch in handheld mode being able to cast the image of a second screen to the dock and thus the TV, giving us proper DS, 3DS and Wii U emulation... instead it's for a stupid chat feature I'm probably never going to use
As usual I hope it gets hacked soon to have some real potential. I want to be able to use themes, backup my game saves locally (because they are mine!), use RetroArch (!!!), probably even Linux to have Netflix and other streaming services in any hotel around the world and so on.

The new Joy-Cons are an upgrade, but sadly it feels somewhat cheap and lightweight, I'd frankly have preferred more weight to it.

Also, the screen of the tablet looks nice so Nintendo did a good job with the Switch Pro-- I mean, Switch 2. :P
If you think the Switch 2 feels cheap you obviously have not held a Steam Deck in your hands.
