Should this work on a Wii U with a Wii U drive connected to the front ports?

I installed the latest USB Loader GX along with cios dx2 v11 as suggested on the github page, but if I have my Wii U drive connected USB Loader GX starts to boot, but then exits back to the vWii menu. If I disconnect the Wii U drive then USB Loader GX works fine.

Thats really strange 🤔, i also see your same question and answered here. Including there exists some thread about this issue with exact the solution i gave you.

If you are asking until someone says yes. Take it as it is and dont ask.

Tomb Raider still doesn't work (anniversary and Underworld) when it starts it gets a black screen
I use USBLGX 1281 with Tomb Raider Underworld and it runs flawless with using a cIOS with base 58 to run my Wii games. Means a cIOS with base 56/57 should work also.

Nope. I formatted my SD to Fat32 with AOMEI, and it doesn't has any partitions.

Checking with Disk Manager in Windows doesn't show any partitions.
The MBR might be corrupted, repair it with Aomei or Testdisk. Additional run chkdsk and optional h2testw (or Linux tool F3).

Ejecución adicional chkdsk y h2testw opcional (o herramienta Linux F3).
I'm going to try, it's that the two games stay on the dark screen, but it doesn't work, I'm going to record a video showing

@Amuro-san There is no need to record a black screen.

If a game gives only black screen, solve in this order :
  1. file-, sector error/corruption on the drive
    • => Run in Powershell the command chkdsk <driveletter>: /r. It will check and repair the filesystem (logical errors) and also corrupt written sektors (physical errors).
  2. or indicates the game is corrupted
    • => Check the game image integrity. The SHA-1 value is already stored inside the image by Nintendo and can be verified for WBFS and ISO images with GC/Wii Backup Manager under "Tools". And copy it over to your drive with Wii backup manager.
  3. or need a specific IOS to run
    • => Use Wii backup manager, it will show you which IOS per game is required, which is mainly (and if lower) IOS 56 or sometimes 57.
    • Theoretically, if on Wii the cIOS 248(base38) is installed, each game lower IOS 38 can run on it.

I think everything is fine, the verification is finished and the names are green

The Wii games used by USBLGX have to be named like this => File path: USB://wbfs/Mario Kart Wii [RMCP01]/RMCP01.wbfs. If Z is your game drive then the game ID in brackets is missing.

And primary run the file-, sector check on the drive before moving new data on it.

EDIT: I have tested now Tomb Raider Underworld and Anniversary, both are running on USBLGX r1281.

I made a wuhb, but you need a forwarder on the vwii, since it's sent from one forwarder to another, then to your SD card. If you don't have a forwarder with sane title id, it will take you back to the wiiu menu.
Where can I find it? I have an old forwarder but will it work with the latest version?

I'm asking specifically about the latest version of USB Loader GX and dx2 v11 beta.

I appreciate your respsonse in the other thread, I did try setting the loader to 58, it didn't seem to help. It also talked about putting both the Wii and Wii U drive on the back ports, which is not possible for me as I'm using y-cables and need another USB for power, I'd need extension cables. I just wanted to know if this is supposed to work out of the box for both Wii and Wii U drives. I set it up exactly as it says to. I thought it might have been better to ask in this thread.

@chr0m

This behavior of your mentioned problem that the Wii drive is not recognized while the WiiU drive is plugged in, is already discussed here in this forum multiple times, also in this thread. By entering our site you are pleased to use the search function.

The recognizen issue of your drive has nothing to do with the version of the d2x patch or version of USBLGX.

The d2x v11 is basically the same like d2x v10 with some additional bug fixes, but change nothing in the USB drive recognizen. The d2x patch has a specific USB modul called "mini ehci" where are not all drives are fully compatibel.

A workaround is using IOS 58/cIOS251(base58) wich has the official USB 2.0 protocol and setting it for the loader and game cIOS. Including the workaround if the vWii drive is not recognized when the WiiU drive is also pluged in. To prevent those issues, use cIOS 251 and plug WiiU drive in port 0 and Wii drive in port 1. A last try would be changing the boot ios in the meta.xml from 58 to 251.

which is not possible for me as I'm using y-cables and need another USB for power, I'd need extension cables.
Correct. If both drives are plugged in the back ports and to power them over Y-Cable you will need a external Power supply or longer cables to power them with the front ports.

Thank you for your attention.

I didn't know that it persists and assumed that the setting was for only the loader. So now I'm a little confused why the original devs didn't add it on a per game basis  I'll be sure to look into it when I get a Wii U.
That would be great! And I don't know either, I assumed it was done this way just because it was a hastily implemented feature and USB Loader GX hasn't gotten a whole ton of updates focused on feature improvements in the years since the Wii U came out, really. Here is a video demonstrating it's current functionality.

It's not so much that the HDD isn't recognised, USB Loader GX looks like it starts to load and then jumps back to the vWii menu.

Anyway, I'll try more of the suggestions, cheers.

it didn't help, I think it has to do with anti-piracy, it's the same old problem with Kirby Adventures Wii, I'm downloading the US version to check it out, but it might give the same problem

if you can't get a game to work, try disabling all global settings in that game's individual settings. I know kirby has metafortress ap, but it may not be that specific kirby game. I know one of them does, but afaik, usb loader gx can now bypass it without having to do anything, so maybe you're outdated. originally, you'd have to disable everything or use a config file, but I still don't know if that's the right kirby game. I think that might be what it's called in Europe without looking it up.
