If you have a wireless router with a USB receiver and connect it to the Wii (i.e. Netgear N-300 WNR2000) I suppose you set up the Wii Wi-Fi by selecting a wired connection?
And does an encrypted connection still work then?

So your trying to connect the Wii to your router by plugging in a USB wifi dongle into the back of the Wii? Is that correct? The Wii has a built in wifi card, use that. And besides, the Wii does not have drivers to support your 3rd party USB dongle. Select wireless connection and it should find your router.

The Wii can only do WEP encryption unfortunately.

I think I get what you mean!?

I have a Wired Router modem and have A Wireless Ethernet bridge attached to it by an Ethernet cable (is this the kinda setup you mean!?) As this gives me Wifi to my PS3/Wii/3 family Laptops and my Dsi and the kids DS lites so have to use crappy WEP encryption its not 100% secure but still better than NO encryption at all

We also have 2x XBOX 360's connected via the Wired Ethernet connections of the router (I Refuse to pay the extortionate microsuck price for the dongles to give them wifi)
