i think someone should reverse engineer it (because nobody know who is behind it) and then understand the method of pictochat.

They aren't simply remaking the original. They combining the 3D functions of Swapnote with the communication functions of Pictochat. Why Nintendo hadn't already devoloped it beats me.

I've got some big plans for this and a relative project for you guys comming. Which is a little more expanded then just chatting

They seem to know what they're doing with this version of pictochat, plus this is gonna be cooler than the original version since we'll be able to connect via WiFi.

Actually you can extract Pictochat SRL (NDS file with DSi Extended Header and other stuff) from a DSi and run it on a flashcart skipping the whole firmware.nds thing. It even exits back to Home Menu when you exit it I believe. It can be installed as a DSiWare app on a 3DS too. But since it's a "system app". It won't show up on Home Menu. You have to boot it using FBI.

However if you inject it over the SRL for DS Download Play on the 3DS's TWLN partition (which can now be decrypted and modified via special version of Decrypt9 or TWLTool) and you can boot Pictochat without having to use CFW first.

If you still actually want to use DS Download Play afterwords, that too works when booted from a DS Flashcart. Just copy the SRL before you overwrite it with PictoChat and put it on your DS flashcart. It should work fine from there.

FYI, if you don't have a exploitable console, it's still possible to inject DSiWare apps over existing system DSiWare like DS Internet (the DS mode wifi configuration menu accessed from System Settings) and DS Download Play. Use TWLTool and a hard-mod. TWLTool can brute force the encryption used for the TWLN partition as it's not as secure as original DSi. (Don't try this on CTR partition though, the encryption on that can't be bruteforced. )

So even if you have a 9.9 sysnand. You can still use a hard mod and TWLTool to inject it over existing DSiWare.

We were planning on using basic http request to receive and send new messages, but for some reason there is a bug in ctrulib where you can only receive http requests a few times, after that it doesn't work anymore.

So at this point we just need to port the http part to sockets, rewrite the server side, and make some changed to the user interface.

I got examens untill the 26th. After that it hooefully wont take long anymore.

We're also doubting about which options we'll enable on release. Such as multiple chat rooms, the option to create your own permanent chatrooms through our server or not.

I'm also planning on releasing the server side script.
So that people could create their chat server.

Friendlists and private chat is something i'm planning for late september.

Sending an http request isn't the problem, but "receiving" one is,
Sending messages is no problem.
But after receiving 5 messages it crashes due to a bug in ctrulib.
that is why we'll need to use sockets --'
