Windows 8 Network Issue

Hey, how are you doing today? Don't bother answering this thread without telling me how you are.

I'm fine, before you ask, also. So, the issue is my internet just only randomly disconnects on this computer, saying it's "limited". However, my other devices I possess say otherwise. It's fine. But not on this new computer. I have to reconnect again, and its a nuisance. How do I fix this issue?

go back to Windows 7. i been having the problems so i am setting my PC back to 7

Have you thought about going back to 7? 8 is primarily for touchscreens IMHO. Never had many issues with it.

We need more information. What do you mean by "connect again"? Are you resetting the ethernet adapter? How long does it take to disconnect? Have you tried using safe mode with networking to see if it still disconnects?

Yea, whenever someone post anything about windows 8 the correct answer is to go back to 7.... . That answer is getting really old. Second of all no one even answered how they were (I'm shitty thanks for asking).


Disconnect your network settings and start from scratch or plug your modem/router in our out. Those are usually the cause for when I see "Limited" in my network options. Also, did you set your computer to connect to your network automatically?

I'm using the computer wirelessly, but the router is behind me, about two meters away from the computer. Yuppers, it's a new computer, windows 8 was installed. By "connect again" i have to click on my SSID from network settings and click connect, to reconnect to my internet connection. I'm still connected when it says limited but to fix the issue I have to disconnect. It takes less than 30 seconds to disconnect, btw. I'll try safe mode with networking, but this thing happens frequently but not too much. On average, 2-5 times in the evening since that is when I use this computer for school work.

Ah, so it's wireless. That changes things. I agree with Vengence. I know it sounds silly and common sense, but that sort of thing can fix the worst of problems. There's also things you can do, like checking to make sure the port your router uses is a good one (not used by other programs or blocked by firewall). If possible, you should also try connecting to another network (neighbor's or whatnot) to see if you still disconnect from their network as well.

Still having this issue. It's ridiculous. The port my router uses is very good, and I can't really connect to another network other than what is mine.

In summary: Network turns to limited connection, every time, have to disconnect the connection and re connect to it. I tried rebooting it, and diagnosing it but it says it fixed in the troubleshooter.

I had this same issue with my PC. Turns out it wasn't the OS or the drivers fault, but the card itself.

The 802.11n wireless standard was revised a number of times before the state it's in currently. If you have a router that uses an older revision of the standard, and a wireless card that only supports a newer revision, bad things happen, just like this. Check if your devices use wireless n. If so, this may be the cause of the issue.

My wireless card was a Dell 1504, and the only way I could solve the issue was by upgrading to an Intel Centrino 6300 wireless card.

That would mean it's on your motherboard instead of being a standalone device. Try looking for drivers, and possibly even BIOS (but only as a last resort).

At points, according to my settings, I have one bar for my network,
is this a connection?

I think what Pedeadstrian is saying that your wireless module is integrated to your motherboard, but to me this sounds uncommon, even laptops wireless module are generally not integrated to the motherboard at all. Unless he/she actually meant Ethernet, in that case that would be very common to be integrated to the motherboard. Motherboard is a system board, it is that big circuit board that takes up a good chunk of your computer case where everything connects to it.
I had a simular issue like this before, and was wired, I couldn't even use the internet. To solve this problem, I had to manually configure an IP, Gateway, Subnet mask, and DNS addresses, and this solved my issue. From your last post, it sounds like it is a different issue though, cause 1 bar is pretty bad, although on a different computer, a laptop, I was still able to browse the internet with 0 bars.
You should try going to the manufacturer's (the brand of your computer) website, usually under support or download, then search for the drivers for your Ethernet/Wireless module. Don't bother updating your BIOS, because if the flashing gets clucked up or you download and flash a wrong BIOS file, that will render your computer inoperable, unless you preserve the emergency boot code, but most often times they don't, and you may have to edit out a certain command in the autoexec file, to preserve the emergency boot feature.

I had the same network issue with win 8.1 but using the Microsoft driver fixed it!

I typically like to use the latest available manufacturer driver installed manually in Device Manager, so I'm not forced to use the bundled utilities.

I think it's a bit too early to say this, but when I switched to the Windows driver, or doing the command prompt code thingy, it worked, haven't had a single issue since.
