Hi everyone,

I’m currently troubleshooting a PS5 (EDM-010 board) with a 2-sec Blue Light of Death (BLOD), and I’m stuck. I could really use some guidance from the community.

Here is a summary of what I’ve tested and ruled out so far:
  • Symptoms: Powers on, emits a single beep, blue light stays on for about 2 seconds, then shuts down completely.
  • Standby Rails: All stable (5V, 3.3V, 2V, 1.15V around the Dialog PMIC RT5126) with no voltage drop before the crash.
  • Liquid Metal & Short Circuits: Thoroughly cleaned and checked; no liquid metal spill or short on the APU components. No shorts found on the Southbridge, Wi-Fi/BT module, or the newly replaced HDMI encoder chip.
  • Main 12V Rail: No massive short on the main input or the MOSFET input capacitors.
  • UART:
Code:
errlog 0:DB
← errlog 0:DB
← OK 00000000 80810001 FFFFFFFF FFFF0023 00000100 2141 0036 FFFF 1840:D0
80810001: General Power Sequence Failure (Check all standby and power-on voltages)

→ errlog 1:DC
← errlog 1:DC
← OK 00000000 C00C0303 FFFFFFFF FFFF0023 00000100 2141 0036 FFFF 1840:EA
C00C0303: VRM Controller Access error

→ errlog 2:DD
← errlog 2:DD
← OK 00000000 C00C0303 FFFFFFFF FFFF0023 00000100 2141 0036 FFFF 1840:EA
C00C0303: VRM Controller Access error

Helped by this video : www[dot]youtube[dot]com/watch?v=KBA9Pf1kaak&t=697s. I monitored power-on voltages, and I noticed that one of the GDDR6 coil tries to ramp up (surging past 1.25V momentarily), but the second one stays dead, and the overall rail output never reaches its required 1V. The system cuts power right after this failure.

Has anyone encountered this specific behavior on an EDM-010 ?

Thanks in advance for any advice or pointers!

There seems to be an issue with the I2C communication between southbridge or APU wit the XDPE VRM controller. What are your readings at pin 9 (SDA) and pin 10 (SCL) at the XDPE chip?

Hi,

Sorry for the delay, I don't have any of those reading at 9 and 10 starting from the dot point (using the boardview PS5-EDM-010) :

My measure :
- 9 (SDA) -> Resist: 1k -- Diode: 649
- 10 (SDL) -> Resist: 1k -- Diode: 649

The pin counting on your image is wrong. In general the pin count on qfn chips is counter-clockwise.
The pin 1 in your image is pin 56 and counting backwards.

Pin 9 and pin 10 would be pin 48 and 49 in your image.

Ok, Thank you ! I didn't know (I'm learning ...)

So I retake my measures :

- 9 (SDA) -> Resist: 52k -- Diode: 300
- 10 (SDL) -> Resist: 52k -- Diode: 300
