My Wii is soft modded and still using system menu 3.2. I remember Nintendo changing their firmware policy so that they will no longer require the user's permission before they update the Wii firmware. If I do online play or buy DLC from certain games, will Nintendo be able to sneak in their upgrade while I am online or downloading the DLC?

No sneaky upgrades, but to get DLC it will prompt for an upgrade to use the shop channel, simply use DOP-IOS to upgrade the shop channel.

Or, I also heard that if you use flash memory, it can act as more "RAM" at least windows tell me when I stick a flash drive into it. -
