I wanted to make mods for Animal Crossing: New Horizons (Changing models/Textures) and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate (Same thing). will I get banned for that/having a cfw alone?
Go online using CFW and you will feel the banhammer in your head almost instantly.

Don't get why people even need to think if airplane mode is safe, just delete your wifi settings
Using internet on your CFW is perfectly safe as long as you don't connect to an official server. That's why we use several layers to cover ourself. Incognito, 90DNS, the host file and exhosphere.

Why would blocking all nintendo servers be a problem if you dont want a ban? The whole point is not connecting to their servers… Why on earth would you take a dns that only blocks some servers?
You have me utterly perplexed.
On a sidenote related to the OP. If you wan’t to play smash bros online with other people & ACNH aswell you cannot without a ban. If you just want to mod the games you can, but the only online you can use is homebrew related.
Yeah, and the DNS that only blocks some Nintendo servers still leads to data being sent to Nintendo, it's not ban proof.

just turn on airplane mode..for me there is no major reason to use the wifi on switch..if you want to do something, you can always do it on your pc or smartphone

You don't 'install' Atmosphere in the sysnand. You run it on the Sysnand. However, the only way for it to not touch the Sysnand at all is to create an Emunand.

I mean, people can get away with just atmosphere since apparently Nintendo can't look at the contents of the SD card but maybe a future version of the firmware can flag atmosphere/CFW being used.

The usual ways to be banned are:

1. Cheating
2. Modding saves for some games
3. Using the file override function to play other games (The original piracy method done by impatient people)
4. Installing pirated games

You can use Atmosphere online usually. I've done it on an emunand (Atmosphere support is iffy for it on some legit games in my experience) and nand
I mean that's not entirely true. People have also been banned for dumping/restoring save data, erroneous error reports, and potentially simply running CFW. You can check them out in the banning thread.

Only thing I can think of is a matter of sharing media through Twitter directly or something, since I would call the other method they added kinda of cumbersome. But I haven't used my Switch in the first place since so who knows.

@The Real Jdbye, I thought about that and I have blank DVD's and Blurays but honestly after like 90 songs I just listen to it a couple of hundred times toss it out and burn something else or have like 2-3 CD's. Florida here the heat in the car tends to ruin the CD's after like a few months even commercial pressed ones don't last too long.
