According to the guys there, the Wiinja has been cracked, but the team who dumped it aren't releasing the code because they are trying to work out a way to flash the code onto the DVD itself, eliminating the need for a chip (i.e, 360 firmware hack).

Guess it's only a few more days before we see the actual code floating around, provided this rumor is true.

I doubt a flashed dvd drive could be detected by the Wii.

I'm pretty sure that it was confirmed that the wii itself can't detect changes in the drive firmware. Anyone care to shed some light on this?

(my signature streches the page on my Wii D: )

I think flashing your drives firmware is just as not detectable as putting a chip on it doing the same job.
But about flashing the firmware... how are we going to make that happen without a chip...?

but wouldn't a flashed firmware cause troubled with online stuff?

The xbox 360 uses a flashed drive to play backups. You can still use xbox live, either microsoft want to sell more xbox 360s or else they can't stop the flash. At the moment the wii being online isn't important until the online games are released. I can't see it being that long before your able to play the VC games for free.

well the 360 did it via sata cable, so might be a way of doign it like that, that is if the wii has a sata port.

Maybe download a sort of patch through the Opera browser?

Who knows. Maybe there's a hole that lets you install stuff through browser. And flash that drive.

the only way i see it happening is solding some king of serial cable that will go into your pc and flashing it...

but you wuold still have to solder on the serial port of the drive

No, you flash the drive by using solder and wires, so basically it's the same thing as putting a chip in except there is no chip and it only costs 5$

Or they are trying to make their own chip.

why soldering a flash cable when its easy to solder a wiinja?

this is nonsense, if it can be a kind of software update, it will have to be SD, DVD or WEB update, a team will not be keeping the hex secret if it still involves soldering

must be a software update!
