Update: can confirm all functionality is needed. So I got my hands on the code folder for the game, disassembled the RPX, and found these curious strings:

00EDEE34 mp::nfc::TagSystemData::isSilver(const(void))
00EDEDE0 mp::nfc::TagSystemData::isGold(const(void))

along with a bunch of other functions in a nice Mario Party library, and a bunch of functions from their engine too. Reverse engineering games is going to be so much easier now that we have symbols provided in most binaries.

:o this might sound stupid, but with trial-and-error, could stuff like this be used to "build" an Amiibo through a broadcast-able NFC tag?

Possibly, yes. We even have symbols from the NFC library too, so it's just a matter of figuring out what order to call them in to write data to the figure (or, say, decode the data from one and send it to your computer like TCPGecko does :P)

Also thought I'd share this for someone else to use, I got bored and decided to write a file extractor for the Rayman files I have (not sure if they use the same formats in the final game for Rayman Legends, they should).
IPKExtract v0.1 Script
Sorry if coding is terrible, it's late and I'm tired :P
Here's an example output of one of the levels (warning, giant text file)
EDIT: Here's an updated one where it writes the files as it reads the data so it doesn't just freeze at the end writing all the data

can you manually update to a specific firmware if your firmware is earlier than the 4.10~5.10/32 range? can it be done though a game? sorry for noob question.

This has been said a million times but i will reiterate. When updating from a game disc, be sure that the console can not connect to nintendos servers or you will end up with the latest update regardless of which update the disc contains. It seems like common knowledge but people never cease to surprise me

I don't have the console yet but I have put multiple yellow sticky reminders stuck around my house telling me to block nintendo servers and to not let the wiiu autoupdate. Trust me I do appreciate the extra reminders, I will not me entering my wifi info on the console until I know I am completely safe from these problems if I need to enter it at all.

You can hold B to boot into vWii and then go back to the Wii U Menu to bypass the update? I turned auto-downloads off and standby so, can an update still pop up?
I don't know how to block so otherwise webkit is useless if I disable internet...

I would say there's logic to that, but when you reset to Wii U mode from vWii it actually resets the entire console, so it would be like you just turned it on to Wii U mode. So yes, that would work, but only if you ONLY used the Wii U to play Wii games and homebrew, which isn't preferable

I would say it's better to be safe than sorry and just block the ninty domains (if your router supports it) personally I'm using Virgin Media's shitty hub and that supports Domain blocking, so far I've had no real problems, plus the internet app still works for normal browsing too. Bonus :)

why quote me? his asked how to get to a low firmware which emplys he knows not to grab it from a normall online update
He asked a question and you answered. I wanted to elaborate further because a lot of people may not know that. He didnt know if it was even possible to update with a game disc which tells me that he DOESN'T know how it works. I quoted you because it was relevant to my post which further elaborated on your post. Isnt that how it works? Furthermore, nothing was said about grabbing it from a normal online update. I was saying that if he was planning on using a disc to update, not to have connectivity to Nintendos servers. You could have a disc with 4.1.0 and end up with 5.3.2 if the console can connect to their servers. Are you mad bro?

NWPlayer123, TeamScriptKiddies : Ah, thanks.

Question: What language will Wii U programs be written in?
Judging by the looks of things C (at least if you look at the current webkit exploit). NWPlayer123 would know a lot more about the kernel exploit as im not involved in that.

I will tell you though thst once we have Trinux running in U mode via said kernel exploit, that it will be possible to write trinux based homebrew in both C and C++

Whether its via trinux or any other plaform, all I care about and want is Kodi on my WiiU. My Raspberry Pi is way too slow navigating the UI and its such a pain to plug in my laptop via hdmi to my tv every time. I also don't want a clunky htpc next to my tv. My WiiU is already connected and I could just fire up Kodi in a jiffy.
