I've been using a USB stick for a little while - I know, I know - to run games from, but obviously this isn't a great solution, and I'm already seeing signs of instability. So I want to buy a proper hard drive to transfer everything over to as soon as possible. Problem is, nothing seems to come with an external power supply these days! It's all USB 3.0 powered. Is there a reliable workaround, or can someone recommend to me a good and reasonably priced hard drive with an external power source?

Thanks!

I ordered from amazon the hard disk that cost less and with 500gb there are practically all the games ....

Which hard disk? There are many!

You can get a y cable which plugs into both ports with a regular usb hard drive. I have one myself works great.

Won't that cause me problems when I'm trying to transfer the data over from my existing USB stick?

My solution was to buy a 500GB laptop HDD for about £15 from CEX, then buy a laptop hard drive USB enclosure from eBay for less than £5, which has a USB Y-split cable. I have 3 HDDs in this setup on my Wii U, all of them work perfectly, all different HDD brands too. It's important to use a laptop 2.5 HDD, full size ones won't work. Couldn't recommend this setup enough, and works out cheaper than most external HDDs, not to mention most are USB 3 nowadays, which can be hit or miss on the Wii U.

No, if anything the usb stick will cause the issues not the hard drive with the y cable. You just put say the usb stick in the back and the hard drive with the y-cable in the front, or vice versa. If you'll notice there's two ports in the back and two ports in the front for transferring.

I had a 2.5 seagate drive that a wii u killed when I used a y-cable. I have a full sized seagate drive now that uses its own power supply and have had 0 issues now for over a year.
