"Wii U could be the first real console on which running an MMORPG without compromise is plausible.

"The controller is perfect for lining up those rows of hotbars that are essential in most MMOs. A customisable touchscreen interface combined with the 3D spatial movement of a console controller could be a winner."

"The secret world was originally also meant to come out on to the Xbox 360.

"We sort of modified our plans a bit based on the fact that console MMOs haven't really made any huge strides lately. We don't want to be the first ones to sort of go out there and capture that whole market. But I think Secret World is a game that could do it. It wouldn't be the same game - there are a lot of things we're doing in the PC version would be hard to do on an Xbox or PlayStation."

If it's free to play, they will have more success. But don't tell that to the folks who have attempted to make MMO's on consoles in recent years, like Square Enix. Still, I agree that the touch screen interface could make certain types of games easier to play on a console since you aren't limited to a few buttons.

I wouldn't say the market is firmly established on the PC, you have WoW, then every other MMO still running combined has about the same player base as WoW, which isn't really a lot. If the developer offers a quality product, the content to keep it running and a free to play system, people might give it a chance. None of the console based MMO's have succeeded due to subscription fees.

Between recent/upcoming games like Guild Wars 2, Rift, and The Old Republic, I don't think many people will be looking towards "The Secret World", especially if it means going out and buy a whole new console.

Like honestly if you wanted to play MMOs you'd just get a PC. It's just the ultimate platform for it regardless of how you look at it. A touchscreen can't really compromise for an entire keyboard.

inb4 pokemon MMO

Because I'd really want to be constantly swarmed by 12 year olds demanding a might Pokemon duel when I just want to level up my goddamn Pikachu.

A Pokemon MMO in practice would just be horrid.
Well, you get more experience from trainer battles anyway, ahaha.
It's kind of funny to think that a Pokemon MMO would be super PvP centric.

just don't let them get you in their sight :X

TBH this kinda sounds like it's a zombie MMO and not a Pokemon one. You just spend a lot of time avoiding the horde or you'll be overcome by battle requests.

Well it's already getting DQX.

The problem is if anyone would actually bother switching to the Wii U for MMOs when the market is firmly established on the PC.
As long as the WiiU gets a credit card swipe slot on the side for microtransactions, every MMO developer will be all over it, begging to enter the Promised Land.

Am I the only one who isn't surprised? Consoles have been moving towards online play for years now. Looking at the slew of online FPSs over multiple consoles, a fully fledged MMO can't be too far behind. There are a great many MMOs I can see being ported to the Wii U due to the controller versatility. I actually can't wait for a good MMO RPG to come out for a console. I think it may even be a seamless transition too. If the console in question already has established payment methods, then the game could run on Micro Transactions. Making the need for subscriptions moot. Ah well, I guess I'm the only excited one. Anyway, having a MMO capable console means a specially tailored experience. No pesky computer requirements to worry over. Especially since a dedicated console can put out much more game related processing power than a desktop computer since they aren't weighted down with clunky OSes. Not to mention the fact that Consoles are considerably cheaper than gaming rigs.

At the mention of a Pokemon RPG... Why not? Pokemon already has well defined areas and characters. Even the already sound gaming formula only needs a bit of tweaking to adapt it to a MMO environment. If it doesn't interest you, then you wouldn't have to play it.

A Pokemon MMO where players run around catching Pokemon and battling each other (PvP style) would be fucking EPIC :creep:

Just saying
