Hardware Wii taking forever to Boot

Now this isn't very direct, as it's not my wii, it's a friend of mine, but basically when he turns it on, he told me it just takes like, 5 mins. to boot up before it starts. Anyway ideas why this could be?

Safely updated with hacked 4.2 firmware.

I know it's probably stupid but could the Wii be loading an emulated Wii (from the SD card in the Wii)?
