Wii price cut confirmed

Following several days of scanned images indicating a Wii price cut, Nintendojo can now confirm that such a cut is indeed coming. Wii will be reduced to $199, effective Sunday, September 27th, and will likely include retailers nationwide. The confirmation was made during a retailer conference call today where a Nintendojo staffer was in attendance.

It night not be an official price cut, just something retailers have cooked up to boost sales.

Last week we reported on rumours that Nintendo plan to cut the Wii's price in the US, based upon multiple retailers prepping for a price drop at the end of the month. Wal-Mart, Toys R' Us and Target are confirmed as slashing the Wii price by $50 to $199.

However, this is not part of a Nintendo led initiative, and no price cuts are to be expected in the US or the UK, according to a statement from the Big N to CVG:

"This is rumour and speculation as Nintendo have made no announcements on price. Furthermore this is most likely retailer-led, much in the same way retailers in the UK offer price promotions on our products."

Retailers have agreed to sell new systems at a set price. If they break that agreement, Nintendo will not provide them with any more consoles.

So, you see, any price cut would have to come from Nintendo.

now Microsoft does a cut (while eliminating the Middle class Pro edition....like we needed THAT in our economy)

Sony does the Ps3 price cut and the Slim model..

I'm not sure but I think he's trying to say that the Wii price cut is only starting to come up because the other consoles got price cuts. Well dude if you're saying that then we can also say sony only put the little 6 axis motion sensor in their ps3 controls because Nintendo had the idea for the wii >.>

Although anyone who permabricks their Wii mostly doesn't deserve another one. The only exception are freak accidents that can't be avoided or if a friend/family member did it. Even then, most people should have the right tools to solve these problems.

Now you can spend the extra $50 you saved on a portable hard drive or a stack of DVDs so you can pirate games. Thanks, Nintendo!

A lot of people were seeing if Nintendo would lower the Wii price to compete with the price drops in the PS3 and the 360. Many analyists said they needed to in order to compete with the competition (despite the lead, systems are starting to push a more "family friendly" approach, especially the PS3). One of the initial reasons the Wii did so well comapred to the others was a huge price difference. Xbox launched at like $400. PS3 launched at a ridiculous $600. Little ol' Wii launched at a friendly, "anyone can get it" $250.

I personally was wondering if they'd do this and I think it was wise they did.
