Ok, I've already contacted deadlyfoez and he told me he just doesn't have the hardware to pursue this but that I could donate my wii but I'm probe gonna get a new motherboard... I asked about infectus for my next wii, lol, but bruteforcing sounds cool. Would I have to write something to turn on the wii and check or is there another way to check if I've broken the encryption. How long would it really take? Might be a fun project to try... Not expecting to find a result until 8-gen consoles though

I've gotta do something with the board

. How long would it realistically take. Also, how do things like xyzz dump the keys? Surely I can do something similar.

Depends on the encryption. If it is AES256 that someone said above, well. See you in the year 2050 or something

Ok, I assume opening Scarlet is impossible so... Will the wii load any code at all? Clearly, the stuff runs on a different ios to the system menu so, would be intact... Could I modify the bootloader to load a cd via this ios?

Anything else? I'm happy with anything new/untested/experimental.

Ok, thanks for all the help and trouble caused.

For archival use: not possible to fix, send to nintendo or buy a new wii

This thread is now finished, thanks!

You. Are. Screwed.
End of story.

If you really want to know how long it would take to bruteforce an AES key: http://xorloser.com/?p=93
tl;dr version: around 5,395,141,535,403,007 billion years. Have fun!
Or you could get lucky and get it right first time

But yeah, its VERY unlikely you'll get it in less than, oh- a few thousand years? (That's fairly optimistic though; it could easily be the last tried option, in which case it would take the full 5,395,141,535,403,007 billion years)

Err... well... technically everything that has to do with computers is stored in hex.

No... anything stored on ANYTHING is stored in BINARY.

The only exception (which isn't really stored) is with the experimental atomic CPU.

And the binary are stored as bits.... bits make up bytes... Bytes are read as HEX digits. Got anything more asinine to say?

Read as hex, but stored as binary. Only read as hex by programs such as hex editors, to make life easier. They are truly in binary.
