Played it for more than 1 hour.. and the gameplay is quite good! Even the night stages are good, they're just have absolutely nothing to do with Sonic, but if you ignore that.. they're quite fun and enjoyable, even the motion controls fit well for the fights, they are very intuitive and feel quite natural. With the gameplay, I have two small problems though: specially during fights, the camera doesn't focus well and there's always a good number of enemies on the screen.. and they're all blue, like you.. a lot of times I have no idea where the hell I am! The second problem is that it looks like the controls for the night and day stages were designed by two different teams.. on day stages, sometimes a target appears on enemies and stuff and you have to swing the remote to jump on it, now.. on the night stages you have the target too, but you have to press B to jump on them! That gets confusing some times.. why couldn't they use the same command? :/
Well, those are small problems, I can live well with them, the game would be excellent if those were the only problems..
BUT, I must say here that I almost gave up completely on the game after the first ten minutes.. mainly because:
- FOR THE LOVE OF EVERYTHING THAT IS SACRED! DOES THIS GAME REALLY NEED ALL THOSE CUT SCENES? I played for 1 hour and I think, at least 30 minutes of that time I was watching cut-scenes.. dammit SEGA! It's a game about a Hedgehog that can break the speed of sound fighting robots! I don't need a story! And there's no need for a cut-scene after almost every stage! Well, if the movies were at least good.. but no! They all feel like an awful morning cartoon.. dialogs are poorly written, jokes are cliché and unfunny and again, watching Sonic and Tails talking with humans and buying ice cream is disturbing at best!
- Not only there are a fuckload of cut-scenes, the game makes you go to villages and talk to people before going to the levels.. and I can't see the point on that! You usually just talk to everyone and a new place appears on the map. It's just something boring that adds nothing to the game!
- Someone please explain to me why do we need one level for each tutorial? After one long cut-scene you finally start the game and a tutorial comes up.. with one small level teaching you HOW TO JUMP! The level ends.. and a new tutorial level has to be loaded.. to teach you how to slide.. and the thing goes on.. not to mention that after you change into werehog the thing comes up again to teach you the new moves.. Why can't we just have one level with all the basic moves? Why can't we skip them? It's the most tedious tutorial I've ever seen in a game..
- And finishing.. what the fuck is that Chip guy? That's the most annoying creature I've ever seen! I've never wanted so badly to kill a video game character like that one! Maybe it's due to the fact that he's the one teaching you in the tutorials.. and during the game he keeps jumping on the screen to tell you the most obvious things "LOOK SONIC! A DOOR! I WONDER IF YOU CAN OPEN IT!?"
So.. that's my impression on it.. if you can stand to the awful cut-scenes, tutorials and all the stuff between levels.. it's a good game.
Also, I've noticed some very long loading times (which make the tutorials even more tedious), is that going on for more people? Could be something with my Wii or DVD drive..
