This does NOT work with backup launcher 0.3 gamma on a PAL Wii. Everything runs very smoothly until you get to the game play, the Wiimote stops responding - you can't get past the text because you need to press A. The game doesn't crash because you can still return to the Wii menu and if you take the batteries out it detects there's no Wiimote, so this one has baffled me.

Do you have GameCube controllers plugged in?

Nope, got nothing else plugged in, no patches turned on either (e.g. FORCEPAL60, though even if I turn them on I get the same problem) is it possible it's just a bad burn?

Honestly, a bad burn wouldn't cause a problem like that. I've never heard of a game booting fine in Backup Loader, but not accepting control input. Check everything again. That's all I can think of, honestly.

Oh it accepts control input, because I can navigate through the menus and skip the opening movie. But when the gameplay starts and that flying rat thing starts to talk to you, nothing happens when I press A to continue the text! It's crazy.

Try unplugging the nunchuck and back in again where it asks you to press A.. had to do this today with the new Rayman game, the wiimote was playing up becuase of bad rechargeble batteries.

Turns out you have to have the nunchuck plugged in from the start, or it doesn't work at all! Probably a game glitch and nothing to do with the backup loader, thanks everyone

So did you get it working? Cause I'm using the backup launcher and the game works perfectly for me.

Played it for more than 1 hour.. and the gameplay is quite good! Even the night stages are good, they're just have absolutely nothing to do with Sonic, but if you ignore that.. they're quite fun and enjoyable, even the motion controls fit well for the fights, they are very intuitive and feel quite natural. With the gameplay, I have two small problems though: specially during fights, the camera doesn't focus well and there's always a good number of enemies on the screen.. and they're all blue, like you.. a lot of times I have no idea where the hell I am! The second problem is that it looks like the controls for the night and day stages were designed by two different teams.. on day stages, sometimes a target appears on enemies and stuff and you have to swing the remote to jump on it, now.. on the night stages you have the target too, but you have to press B to jump on them! That gets confusing some times.. why couldn't they use the same command? :/

Well, those are small problems, I can live well with them, the game would be excellent if those were the only problems.. BUT, I must say here that I almost gave up completely on the game after the first ten minutes.. mainly because:

- FOR THE LOVE OF EVERYTHING THAT IS SACRED! DOES THIS GAME REALLY NEED ALL THOSE CUT SCENES? I played for 1 hour and I think, at least 30 minutes of that time I was watching cut-scenes.. dammit SEGA! It's a game about a Hedgehog that can break the speed of sound fighting robots! I don't need a story! And there's no need for a cut-scene after almost every stage! Well, if the movies were at least good.. but no! They all feel like an awful morning cartoon.. dialogs are poorly written, jokes are cliché and unfunny and again, watching Sonic and Tails talking with humans and buying ice cream is disturbing at best!

- Not only there are a fuckload of cut-scenes, the game makes you go to villages and talk to people before going to the levels.. and I can't see the point on that! You usually just talk to everyone and a new place appears on the map. It's just something boring that adds nothing to the game!

- Someone please explain to me why do we need one level for each tutorial? After one long cut-scene you finally start the game and a tutorial comes up.. with one small level teaching you HOW TO JUMP! The level ends.. and a new tutorial level has to be loaded.. to teach you how to slide.. and the thing goes on.. not to mention that after you change into werehog the thing comes up again to teach you the new moves.. Why can't we just have one level with all the basic moves? Why can't we skip them? It's the most tedious tutorial I've ever seen in a game..
sleep.gif

- And finishing.. what the fuck is that Chip guy? That's the most annoying creature I've ever seen! I've never wanted so badly to kill a video game character like that one! Maybe it's due to the fact that he's the one teaching you in the tutorials.. and during the game he keeps jumping on the screen to tell you the most obvious things "LOOK SONIC! A DOOR! I WONDER IF YOU CAN OPEN IT!?"
mad.gif

So.. that's my impression on it.. if you can stand to the awful cut-scenes, tutorials and all the stuff between levels.. it's a good game.

Also, I've noticed some very long loading times (which make the tutorials even more tedious), is that going on for more people? Could be something with my Wii or DVD drive..

There are no chao's as far as I can tell but I am only 3 hours or so into it.

Also, why did they have to get rid of the Mazuri stage. That level has the best music by far.

the werewolf levels annoy me, they are generic and repetitive, the only levels i like is when you are playing as sonic, when you go into each village and you have to read the wall of text, that boring aswell.

camera angles are horrific.

I'd give this game a 7.5. Graphics look very good at 480p, might not even rent it for the 360 to see the 1080p glitz... the controls are solid for a wii game, everything responds as you'd expect... but as mentioned by everyone, the sonic stages are top-notch sonic to the max awesomeness, but the night/warehog stages are kinda generic beat-em up/platformer (ie, crash bandicoot, etc) style stages. Overall it's a pretty fun game. Once I've beaten the game I'll probably keep it in my folder for easy access, so I can play all the day stages as time trials again and again.

Forgot to say.. the music is great! No voices, no emorock songs, just good old video game music, almost as good as the Mega Drive songs
smile.gif

And the problem with the night stages is that it feels like a totally different game.. it's like going to an Ice Cream shop and getting a cake, the cake is good and all, but that's not what you want, if you're going to an Ice Cream shop that's because you want Ice Cream! That's how this game feels.. you go to an Ice Cream shop, and you're served 2 small balls of Ice Cream and 3 big cakes that you haven't asked for.. with a bucket of sand being served between each sweet

Oh, unless you're a perfectionist, don't bother getting the medals to open all the doors in the temples, I thought they would lead to extra levels, but no. Just a small room with some extra movies and art. :/

Memorex is a cheap brand. DVD-R are better than DVD+R.

Buy some cheap sony DVD-R from Wal-Mart.

Aw, come on. It's got a lighthearted sense of humor, compared to all the angstyness from the more recent games. Granted, they could've done away with the cheap Chip jokes, but at least Tails was actually bearable this time.
