My requirements:
I have no solder experience and I don't plan on trying on the wii!
So I am looking to purchase the chip pre-soldered to a wii clip. So all I have to do is open the wii.

My system:
I purchased my Wii June 2007.
Checked my serial number (LU 5160XXXXXX) here's what I found on wii-tracker:
Your Drive Chip is most likely GC2-D2B.

Your Drive Pins are most likely not cut.

I will most likely open my system up prior to purchase just to make sure...

Ok, so with that information what Modchip would you recommend?
I would like the cheapest solution possible; not that I'm pressed for money but still. In the united states.
And I would also like it to be stable and updateable.
Thanks for your help!

WII-CLIP V3 + a wiikey sounds like a good option for you.

Another good option is Free-Clip - which will let you run solderless YAOSM.

^^ These two are only for if your legs aren't cut. If they are...

Go for either a wasabi or d2pro9 and clip. These will cost a fair bit more though.

EDIT: Just had a quick look around - dealextreme have free-clip and it is very cheap. http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.12714

If your legs arnt cut then from my expirience the Wii Key is a good choice. Yes its not the newest chip but it does the job and i havnt had any problems with it.
My Wii was also D2B i bough mine in feburay i had the earlier ones that didnt have any legs missing. So you either have that one or the one with 1 missing leg or the one where you have to solder to the 3 IC legs, but its best to open it and be 100% what you have.

I would use the clip as a last solution mainly because my expirience with it wasnt good. Since i didnt have a real soldering skills i went witht he WiiClip V3 for the Wiikey. The clip didnt fit the chip (too big) but i got my money back. So i decided to practice on some old circuit boards and solderd it to my Wii directly, considering the size of the Wii Key(you realy cant understant how small it is untill you see it) it went well and its been going great for the past 5 months. Also a "clip" will never be as good as the thing being solderd on higher chance of it comeing out and not working.

*Either get a pro to solder the chip thats for your board.
*Do it yourself.
*Buy a pre modded Disc Drive.
*Use a WiiClip with a presolderd chip for your board.

@SylverReZ, I also heard one of the Prince of Persia games was so unfinished that it required the "24/7 online" drm so a puzzle could be done and the game could be finished. And that when the Ubisoft servers were closed the (cracked) game was impossible to finish or something like that
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@Xdqwerty, That's extra scummy. Ubisoft nowadays ship out incomplete games like Skull and Bones which was being worked on for nearly a decade now.

I like that games can be fixed after the fact, hate that it's being abused via beta tests... And DLC... I was a 7800 owner back in the day and loved Impossible Mission, turns out I couldn't beat it because it was actually impossible lol

I never knew about it at the time but a fixed version was available but you had to mail in your broken copy lol

So that version is semi rare
