my brother's Wii has the serial # LU55412xxxx that has the drive chip as GC2-D2C, I've read that the D2C may actually be a D2C2 chip, how can I tell which one it is? I also saw that the D2Pro may work with the D2C and the D2C2 chips? another thing, he would like the modchip to be a solderless type, the D2Pro with the WII-CLIP V4 would be perfect if it's compatiable with either drive chip, thanks for the help

If you open the wii - and look at the GC2-D2C chip, if there is a second line of text under GC2-D2C... it'll not be a D2C2. Otherwise, it may or may not be.

If you want to play it safe, wait a week or so, and get one of the new D2Pro9 chips which support D2C2.

For this, you'll need WII-CLIP V4C. At this stage, 9 wire is the way to go - you have the benefit of dvd updates and easier install.

You may also want to consider paying a modder to do a wired install for you. It shouldn't cost too much for a 9 wire chip - and I'd have more faith in it than a clip.
