look at the back of the box near the nintendo golden logo if it says Copyright 2012 then yes .

That isn't always true some newer models were put into boxes with 2012 trademark it's much safer to use the serial codes. sw12XXXX or lower for U.S I'm not sure for others but that's probably the 100% way to be sure

Just found three new 3ds xl units with v4.2... the store loosely confirmed that they were supplied with newer models when the search began for older firmware.
Now that people think they can't be found in stores, they can be.

Canada here, first time buying a 3ds. At Walmart, they only had two pink 3ds with CW, 2012 US. I purchased one with CW72XXX, unsure if it's good. I went to eb games across the street, they only displayed trade ins and refurbished but had small stock of new 3dsXL. I was greedy so I bought blue/black 3DS XL for full price.

Anyone knows about 3DSLL mint white?
It's serial number SJF1498XXXX X, and technically it was released in april (while 5.0 was out in march).
Someone said a Year of Luigi version has an 4.5 update, but it was also released in april, so... maybe I can hope mint also has 4.5FW?
