depending on how it's done possibly, it could be optimized with a lot of patches for Mario Sunshine and be really bad for other games, hoping it's a really good emulator though because that'll be a fantastic gift from Nintendo
i have a feeling they didn't build this just for one game collection
they will reuse it for something possibilities include eshop , zelda anniversary collection , metroid prime trillogy collection
that i can think of so far, i am sure it will be used again in at least one of those scenarios
not sure about skyward sword rumors maybe they will go full emulation or maybe half like is rumored to be done here again

Can anyone dump the .rom or .iso of Super Mario 64 or Sunshine?

I'm really curious how they will behave if they run on a real Nintendo 64 or Game Cube.

I wanted to test the Super Mario Sunshine on the Nintendont of the Wii U, the layout of the Game Cube games are not very nice on the Wii U GamePad, I believe that this version corrects this problem.
when you push Select in game, Nintendont change the layout of controls, try it.

The way I see things now is that Nintendo added N64,GC & Wii backwards compatibility. Yes I'm aware that this is a ports
no, nintendo does emulate n64 and gc on this collection but galaxy is recompiled which means its not emulated they just ported the source code altogether.

While people say SMS is purely emulated, I think it's not just like SMG. Except SMG's code is statically linked into the main executable, while SMS's code is in an NRO file (actually it's of type .nrolz, located in romfs\data\gekko\MarioSunshine\nx\MarioSunshine.nrolz, from the extension seems like it's supposed to be an LZ compressed NRO0 but I've not been able to find a tool which decompresses this LZ variant (perhaps it's just Wii LZ but in LE?)). There's also a .nrr folder which further suggests that nrolz file is actually an NRO.
But there clearly seems to be some sort of emulation going on...but I have a wild theory; what if they actually recompiled the source code for ARM (actually SMS is Aarch64, while SMG's main executable seems to be for 32-bit ARM) and just emulated the rest of the Wii/GC h/w. Theoretically this would make the emulation much easier, as there wouldn't be a need to translate PPC to ARM on the fly...but that's just a theory XD
What I should also mention (and I bet someone else has noticed it already), while SMS has a GCM disk image, it's actually NOT a vanilla SMS image. It has folders for all the supported languages, cutscene THPs only have audio (just like SMG ones, cause video comes from the MP4s), and if you boot this GCM in Dolphin it runs in 16:9 by default.
Also the "emulator" seems to be named "Hagi", with the whole project seemingly codenamed "Stardust".
Another interesting tidbit that I've found is that (in SMG at least, haven't checked SMS yet for this) seeming all files have their endianness flipped to LE, which really suggests that SMG has been recompiled for ARM, not being translated from PPC.

I heard they're emulated and not an actual port, does that mean we can replace the galaxy iso for another iso, like skyward sword? Also replace gamecube isos?

That's a no for Galaxy, but a maybe for Gamecube. Galaxy is only partially emulated.
Apprently someone got Luigi's Mansion running in place of Sunshine, but no pictures were uploaded (afaik).

Pretty much this. They have to give us more of a reason to buy older stuff. Packaging remastered titles like Zelda/Metroid/Star Fox as a single title is more appropriate for the Switch. Thats basically how I pack-merge my xci's if a game has sequels.

NewHope to see Nintendont app come to Switch homebrew also thanks for Mission Control app that can use Wii U pro, Wiimote and nunchuk or classic controller :)

Thanks for the info about “mission control app”, been away from the scene since the beginning of the year and this is the first I heard of this. Gonna check this out later.

I hate to be that person but why not just buy it they game? it's cheap enough I got three copies as I work in a gamestop and we had 20 copies sent to us and one is mine the other is for my boyfriend the other is for my neighbours child with learning disabilaties i babysit during a weekend.some stores are still taking preorders so if you want a copy grab one before the scalpers buy them all just like the toilet paper and hand sanitizer. I been playing mine during my breaks at work and i'm really enjoying Mario sunshine as I have never played it while I have played galaxy and 64.

Support the developers guys and gals.

I know Piracy is the easy way out but some games are actually worth the money as a lot of love goes into making them, while some... tend to be a bit? lacking much creativity or actual value but then again that's just my opinion. ^w^

  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I just found out that the EU version is better in literally every way, better sound quality, better lighting, and there's even a patch someone made to make the text look nicer
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
Do I restart now using what i've learned on the EU version since it's a better overall experience? or do I continue with the US version since that is what ive been using, and if someone decides to play my hack, it would most likely be that version?
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
@TwoSpikedHands, I'll preface this with the fact that I know nothing about the game, but, I think it depends on what your goals are. Are you trying to make a definitive version of the game? You may want to refocus your efforts on the EU version then. Or, are you trying to make a better US version? In which case, the only way to make a better US version is to keep on plugging away at that one ;)
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
I'm not familiar with the technicalities of the differences between the two versions, but I'm wondering if at least some of those differences are things that you could port over to the US version in your patch without having to include copyrighted assets from the EU version
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
@Sicklyboy I am wanting to fully change the game and bend it to my will lol. I would like to eventually have the ability to add more characters, enemies, even have a completely different story if i wanted. I already have the ability to change the tilemaps in the US version, so I can basically make my own map and warp to it in game - so I'm pretty far into it!
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I really would like to make a hack that I would enjoy playing, and maybe other people would too. swapping to the EU version would also mean my US friends could not legally play it
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I am definitely considering porting over some of the EU features without using the actual ROM itself, tbh that would probably be the best way to go about it... but i'm sad that the voice acting is so.... not good on the US version. May not be a way around that though
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
    I appreciate the insight!
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@TwoSpikedHands just switch, all the knowledge you learned still applies and most of the code and assets should be the same anyway
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    and realistically they wouldn't

be able to play it legally anyway since they need a ROM and they probably don't have the means to dump it themselves
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
why the shit does the shitbox randomly insert newlines in my messages
  • Veho @ Veho:
It does that when I edit a post.
  • Veho @ Veho:
It inserts a newline in a random spot.
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
never had that i don't think
  • Karma177 @ Karma177:
do y'all think having an sd card that has a write speed of 700kb/s is a bad idea?
trying to restore emunand rn but it's taking ages... (also when I finished the first time hekate decided to delete all my fucking files )
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@Karma177 that sd card is 100% faulty so yes, its a bad idea
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
even the slowest non-sdhc sd cards are a few MB/s
  • Karma177 @ Karma177:
@The Real Jdbye it hasn't given me any error trying to write things on it so I don't really think it's faulty (pasted 40/50gb+ folders and no write errors)
