nearly all the internal connectors are proprietary (they even came up with their own m.2 based SSD connector, for fucks sake! Who does that???)
I'm surprised they don't just sauldor the flash storage chips to the board and have a single storage size per model at this point.

For 600 bucks you wont get anything worth gaming on for a laptop. Well at this point I'd build a slick Ryzen 5 2400g PC and wait till the GPU prices go down. You could get a RX550 GPU but the gaming performance will be marginal. Right now is a sad time for PC gamers.

At this point it's still cheaper for them to have them configured at the Apple stores by their employees so they never have extra inventory

Pre built was the way to go for me since I had around $600 to spend, found a pretty good system i7 6700, 8gb ram, 2tb hdd with 128ssd along with a rx 570 which came out to $620 don't go with a mac or a laptop as I regretted them for gaming and encoding.

I recently bought an Acer Predator Helios 300 for just over a grand. It has an i7 7700 processor, geforce gtx 1060 6gb gddr5, 16gb ddr4 ram, 256gb SSD, and I tossed in a 2tb SSHD for just $80 more. It default runs everything at ultra specs, emulation is a breeze, it runs cemu and citra like pure fire. Temps when gaming hardcore never exceed 85° and the cool boost feature will keep you at no higher than 79°. Vicious little monster for its price point

Wait for the B360 motherboards to come out (a few ASUS ones are already out in some places in Asia), then drop in a i3 8100 or an i5 8400. It'll be much better than a Ryzen system for most tasks. If you video edit in Adobe Premiere, Intel is the way to go.
