IIRC, the prices weren't even going to go remotely near what the prices were at before till 2019, and even then, people don't know whether or not it'll ever happen. It's all educated guesses. Some think it's a pricing scheme. Companies like Samsung have said they're switching to a new manufacturing process, causing low supply.

I like my laptop. A desktop is a bit large. Where am I going to put it? And it’s stuck in one place.

I got mine from dell.com, refurbished. I think it was $600. That was back about ten years ago. Still have it. Inspiron 15r(n5010). It’s still fast and really quiet.

Really it depends on what you plan on doing on it no one can recommend anything unless they know what the work load or purpose of it is.

There are a lot of guides for specific price ranges. Although $600 is a little low for a good desktop. Can you save up a little longer? If you can it may be worth it to get better specs.

Honestly? I think a lot of you guys know my track record with hopping in and designing builds as advice, but it's just logistically and economically not WORTH it to build a PC right now, unless your Craigslist skills are laser tuned and you get the lucky break of a lifetime. He really should be going for either a custom prebuilt or an upper-midrange laptop

Anything but a mac.

But building one these days would be, expensive. A prebuilt gaming or pro Laptop (IE Razer, IBM, etc) would be a good idea.

Actually, laptop is great for gaming.. Name one ? Alienware gaming laptop but a very expensive cost..

I'd like to reiterate my hesitation for doing that, at least for right now. You're almost definitely going to regret it should prices come down and you're left with a low-mid tier build at the same price you could have gotten a mid-high
