I'm in the same boat, official website v1.09, community v1.03 (with latest commit yesterday) and there is the (what seems to be outdated) simple light.
Do anyone know what the differences are?

EDIT: OK so the community one is for the DE-version only, I'm one the base version

Sterophonick's Simple kernel adds emulators for a bunch of other platforms not included with the default kernel - Sega 8-bit, MSX, CHIP-8, ZX Spectrum, others. Stero's pretty good about keeping it updated with the latest official kernel and firmware.

Veikkos' kernel does seem to be outdated and it doesn't have the 8-bit Sega emulator, so I confess I've never used it. I'd say if you want the extra emulators, go with Simple, otherwise the official kernel should work fine.
