I have a broken 2ds (touch screen is unresponsive due to broken ribbon cable connecting to digitizer) and it has a small bump on the bottom right corner near the power button and sleep switch, is this a common defect? or is this some indicator of sorts?

Looks like a screw bump. I’ve made a few those in my time. That’s why it’s always important to keep track of your screws and not over-tighten them.
