I want to buy Guitar Hero for my son's christmas (who is 8) and i want to know what you think is the best version to play.

We have a XBox360, a Wii, a PC and a DSi.

Obviously the Xbox one is probably the best for graphics and online but i'm more interested in overall enjoyment, playability, features, controls and the what is the actual best guitar to hold and play.

I want hear everybody's opinion but those people who have played it on more than one console are the one's i'm most interested in.

If there are any other guitar type games that you want to recommend then please do.

Cheers,

Personally, i preferred Guitar Hero 3, it was the last Guitar Hero to allow you to play with the controller. I just love me some button'mashin'.

1 or 2 (2 if you have a 360 I guess)

probably had some of the best tracks until 3 came along with Activision/Neversoft leading the helm and things went downhill.

Just avoid the wireless controler that came with gh3 on 360

Do you mean a specific wireless controller that was released with the game or the normal 360 joypad?

If you mean one that came with the game, what was wrong with it?

Was there a guitar controller released with gh3? Can you use an older/different guitar with gh3?

What type of controller is the best for gh3?

aerosmith was actually the last game to support it

everything after GH4 (World Tour) see's the controller as a mic and ignores inputs from it

loved playing with the regular controller
but I guess with game piracy and such they want to make sure you buy the game and controllers

All of the guitars released with GH3 (the Les Pauls) have a 'detachable neck' for 'easy portability and storage'. The neck being detachable means it isn't one solid piece, and can (and most likely will) suffer from some sort of pin-contact issues causing problems ranging for minor button delay to straight up game-ruining stuff. You can open it up and fix it to make it work decently well, but you're better off just getting another guitar.

As far as which version you should get, I would recommend one of the PC versions that has a customizer tool released. My bro uses PC GH3 and a program called Guitar Hero 3 Control Panel (GHTCP) to add custom songs to his song list, as well as guitar charts ripped from the more current GH games. This is by far the best value, but I don't think PC online play works well if at all.

i prefer gh5 because i liked the tracks better than the other heroes and i liked having kurt, shirley and santana as my band members.

the theme in gh6 is horrid imo.

His son is 8 peeps, and having 2 lads myself that are a little bit older, I'd say the first few GH's aren't gonna appeal that much....
You're on here, so maybe you've got a modded Wii? There's your answer...... for the games it can depend on his taste in music: GH5 is most likely the best choice out of all the Guitar Hero games..... Band Hero could be another good bet..... Rock Band 2 or 3 are even better though like has been said, and Lego Rock Band isn't too bad (and pretty cheap too!)
Actual guitars... for your lads I'd say use the GH ones.... I've got both, and whilst I prefer the RB one, my lads will always plump for the GH one - more spaced out, easier to feel buttons for them...

Wii is certainly your best bet if you want to try them all out, although accessories are usually harder to find for it than the 360.... but if you want more eye candy when playing, then it's a no brainer (although the Wii versions do the job fine there tbh)

  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I just found out that the EU version is better in literally every way, better sound quality, better lighting, and there's even a patch someone made to make the text look nicer
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
Do I restart now using what i've learned on the EU version since it's a better overall experience? or do I continue with the US version since that is what ive been using, and if someone decides to play my hack, it would most likely be that version?
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
@TwoSpikedHands, I'll preface this with the fact that I know nothing about the game, but, I think it depends on what your goals are. Are you trying to make a definitive version of the game? You may want to refocus your efforts on the EU version then. Or, are you trying to make a better US version? In which case, the only way to make a better US version is to keep on plugging away at that one ;)
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
I'm not familiar with the technicalities of the differences between the two versions, but I'm wondering if at least some of those differences are things that you could port over to the US version in your patch without having to include copyrighted assets from the EU version
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
@Sicklyboy I am wanting to fully change the game and bend it to my will lol. I would like to eventually have the ability to add more characters, enemies, even have a completely different story if i wanted. I already have the ability to change the tilemaps in the US version, so I can basically make my own map and warp to it in game - so I'm pretty far into it!
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I really would like to make a hack that I would enjoy playing, and maybe other people would too. swapping to the EU version would also mean my US friends could not legally play it
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I am definitely considering porting over some of the EU features without using the actual ROM itself, tbh that would probably be the best way to go about it... but i'm sad that the voice acting is so.... not good on the US version. May not be a way around that though
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
    I appreciate the insight!
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@TwoSpikedHands just switch, all the knowledge you learned still applies and most of the code and assets should be the same anyway
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    and realistically they wouldn't

be able to play it legally anyway since they need a ROM and they probably don't have the means to dump it themselves
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
why the shit does the shitbox randomly insert newlines in my messages
  • Veho @ Veho:
It does that when I edit a post.
  • Veho @ Veho:
It inserts a newline in a random spot.
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
never had that i don't think
  • Karma177 @ Karma177:
do y'all think having an sd card that has a write speed of 700kb/s is a bad idea?
trying to restore emunand rn but it's taking ages... (also when I finished the first time hekate decided to delete all my fucking files )
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@Karma177 that sd card is 100% faulty so yes, its a bad idea
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
even the slowest non-sdhc sd cards are a few MB/s
  • Karma177 @ Karma177:
@The Real Jdbye it hasn't given me any error trying to write things on it so I don't really think it's faulty (pasted 40/50gb+ folders and no write errors)
