Hacking what if I would replace IOS38 with IOSXX?

I've been wondering what would happen if I downloaded another IOS, perhaps IOS57 from NUS and renamed it to appear as it if it was IOS38.

If you just rename the wad, that won't do anything as it'll still install as IOS57
You have to change the IOS slot with ShowMiiWads

If you install IOS57 in slot 38, it'll use that when it needs IOS38
I don't know if there's really any advantages to do so...

I meant using Waninkoko's installer.

IOS57 is suppose to have more support for games but so far all my games work. I'm not going to do what I posted; I'm just curious is all.

The Wii is set up in such a way that every game uses the IOS it was developed for. The advantage of this is that new features present in newer IOS's can't break older games. If you replace IOS38 with a newer IOS you probably won't notice any difference. None of the games that use IOS38 will be able to take advantage of the new features. It's possible that it will break compatibility though, as new features can break older games.

tl;dr: don't do this, there's no reason to.

Changing stuff with IOSs can be dangerous so better safe than sorry...

@OP: If you rename the IOS57 wad to IOS38 (or the other way around), the cIOS installer will think it's the IOS you renamed it too
this doesn't really have any (dis)advantages

well also i believe ios57 has the camera support, so maybe he wants to have a cios with camera support without using cioscorp.

edit: well it does have the advantage of possibly/probably adding features (such as using ios37 as a base for usb instruments)

Meh, I don't think installing IOS 57 to IOS 38 slot could do a brick.

That being said, do have protection, or plain use SNEEK.
