You probably won't be able to decrypt emuNAND and dump your own eShop games if you unlink the NANDs. This is a known problem with CTR Multi Decryptor but there is no information as to whether the same problem exists with rxTools, it likely does though.
Additionally, you won't have any of your legit eShop stuff on sysNAND anymore and you'll have to boot into emuNAND even when you just want to play legit eShop purchases.
Other than that, there are no notable disadvantages so if those don't bother you then go ahead and unlink.
My internet settings. Do tranfer over. And yes im mobile right now

You can already have different internet settings, by just filling up the internet connections on the sysNAND with fake ones it won't transfer over settings from emuNAND.

are there any updated steps to doing this? also will i be able to use retail games in classic mod and sysnand the same way i do now

What I do currently is play my retail online games in classic mode on emuNAND 9.5 (do not update emunand unless you're sure you're on emunand, also leaving settings will boot you to sysnand just so you know)
For backups I enter gatewaymode. Idk if it helps to have the gw cart in as you boot classic mode but they suggest it so I just do it and then swap to retail carts, saves works fine.

Idk how anything .cia works yet as Im quite new myself but as far as modes you should be good to go

edit:

someone suggested to create folders (S for sysnand and E for emunand) which I thought was a great idea to further make sure what you're currently running.

Or instead of folders, I just make the emunand a different theme. I keep sysnand as that basic stock white so I always know when its in emunand or not.

It still works as long as your sysNAND and your save share the same save encryption method. For example, if you start your XY / ORAS in 6.x sysNAND, it still works in 9.5 Classic Mode on 6.x+ sysNAND, but doesn't work in 9.5 Classic Mode on 4.5 sysNAND.

Hi,

on this topic - I've read somewhere that it's possible to unlink the SN and EN by formatting the Emunand.
I ask because I have a MH N3DSXL with the game installed on SD, with my savegame created in sysnand. I think it would make sense to format the emunand is this case, is this advised?
thanks

Remember that DSiware does not work on EmuNAND. You have to play it on SysNAND. So unlinking them means you lose your DSiware (unless you already transferred it to SysNAND while they were still linked, and even then you can't get any new DSiware.)

If you unlink your nands, you won't have to unwrap the cias everytime you start emunand. Also, you can have different internet settings in each nand to avoid accidentally updating.

And you can format the sysnand without format the emunand (not sure but I suppose the link might delete both?)

There's no real cons about unlinking (people who dump eshop games are a minority with the gateway) but it's up to you.

Ahhhh I seeeeeee.
So do you know where .CIA's save? Just onto the SD card or system memory?

SD Card.

Oh yeah, and the ambassador GBA games won't work.

Do you have a surge protector or an UPS?
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
Yea but to play the next gen games, you must have those games on internal, or buy the official ssd expansion cards, which are expensive
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
@MysticStarlight, dunno what each one of those are

@MysticStarlight, my PS3 was already modded when my dad bought it for me and my brother
  • MysticStarlight @ MysticStarlight:
A surge protector is a device that protects your electronics from fluctuations. I recommend having your console plugged into one of those
  • MysticStarlight @ MysticStarlight:
An UPS is even better because it has an internal battery that keeps your system on even if the power goes out, but it's much more expensive obviously
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
@MysticStarlight, oh i recall seeing one in some in the houses of some relatives, including my dad's apartment

@MysticStarlight, although whatever device we plug into them stops getting power anyways lol

On the series s/x you can use a external HD but any next gen games must be on your internal ssd, or you can buy a ssd expansion card, but pricey. Any xbone, 360, or og Xbox games can be played from external tho.
