Hey folks! I just did a big batch install of WADs to my vWii via YAWMM, though it failed to install the final four files, ostensibly because of the system memory is full (because I'm told as much when I fire up the vWii). I am being told my Wii system memory is at capacity, after installing ~64 WAD files. I've deleted several of the larger WADs already, though still have 0 blocks available. What is the capacity for vWii, and is it possible to increase it?

vWii has something like 512MB..you can kinda increase it via SD card slot...you need to more the games to the SD card and load them from there.

Thanks, that clears things up a lot. Silly-small limit for a system with 32GB total storage lol. Does the vWii support SDHC, or is a 2GB expansion all I can get away with?

I appreciate the quick responses! I've found yet another issue though: The vWii homescreen doesn't give me enough channel space for all of the WADs I installed. There are about a dozen or so that show as installed in the Channels menu, but don't show up to select from the home scene.

As in, there are physically not enough spaces on the system menu to accommodate the channels?

I don't think the vWii has access to the Wii U mode internal memory. Also, the Wii U mode cannot access the SD card slot which is only reserved for the vWii.

Actually, it can in Super Smash Bros for Wii U. It saves pictures and replays to the SD Card

Also, is there a way to install channel wads to the SD Card? Cuz Im out of vWii memory as well

Except for select games that support it, such as Smash 4
Precisely. I cannot scroll right any further to 'open' channel spaces, and many of the things installed do not show up on the system menu to be able to run.
You might want to look into an EmuNAND, then. Do you use a USB loader at all?

Really, I didn't know that. That's weird they would allow a Wii U game access the SD card but not any other part of the Wii U mode. I thought is was kind of stupid on their part anyways to have an SD card slot that was only used by vWii.

I'm afraid I don't understand what an EmuNAND is, could you elaborate? I don't have a USB loader set up yet, I just finished getting SmashStack set up and iOS236 installed. I was going to put off a USBLoader until I actually had an external hard drive to use.

IOS236 is unnecessary for vWii, but as long as yours still functions, you should be fine

An EmuNAND... oh boy, ok, this will be interesting to explain. Basically, an emulator for a computer (like Dolphin, for example) emulates every aspect of the Wii console, be it hardware, software, BIOS, what have you. A NAND emulator, however, just emulates the filesystem of the console (the NAND) with the added benefit of allowing you to use as much storage as the storage medium you are using. (So, say you have an 8GB flash drive, you have an EmuNAND that can go up to 8GB in size). Coupled with a USB loader, this will give you both the storage and room to launch anything you want off of an SD card or USB drive

"Channels can be installed on your wii's real nand but the wii's internal memory is a tiny 512MB and you'll soon run out of space. With an emu nand you can install as many channels as your storage device (SD or USB) has space for, which is usually way more than 512MB. You need Neek by Crediar to be able to play channels installed in your emu nand on SD or USB. Other things you can do with Neek and a emu nand include:"

As far as I'm aware, it is generally recommended that wads be installed to Emunand in the first place, as it is very easy to brick vWii mode. There is currently no way to unbrick vWii mode if something goes wrong.

Setting up Emunand does take a bit of work.

Interesting. I'd just tried installing WADs to the vWii menu and then moving the titles to load off the SD card, but I found very few to work that way (while they were fine on my old Wii). I'm assuming this EmuNAND is the way to go, but Sneek looks really complicated.

Yep, only 2GB :T

This is wrong, the vWii is like a standard wii in the size of SD cards it can allow up to, while originally the Wii could only read up to 2GB SD Cards, that changed with a later update, and out of the box, the vWii on the Wii U can allow the use of SDHC cards as well as even SDXC cards (though you need to format the SDXC cards to Fat32). I understand 1TB SDXC cards work in the vWii, and potentially even bigger cards could work too, I've just never seen anyone report on any cards bigger than that.

The only issue is old games with the 2GB limit (such as any of the ones used to hack Wii mode), those have to be 2GB or under.

It's because Wii mode doesn't have access to the 32GB of the WiiU, just a sectioned off portion identical to the size the original Wii used.

This is all fantastic information to have, and I appreciate it. Would EmuNAND help with the system menu limitation I seem to be hitting? It looks like the default is capped at four pages, or 48 channels on the home screen. Seven of the channels are eaten up by system stuff (Disc Channel, Miiverse, Wii Shop Channel, Wii Menu Manual, Wii U Menu, Wii System Transfer, and HBC). The remaining 41 slots are occupied by WAD installs, though I have 54 WADs installed (and showing in the Channels section of System Memory Management).

Ladies and Gentlemen, I present to thee, TotalInsanity4, who despite owning a videogame console for 2 1/2 years is still learning how basic components function!
