The real question is why it has a USB 3.0 port... what apart from a storage device would it be used for?

They do make sense.
The Switch as of now can use USB for a few things, but USB storage is not one of them.
They would need to update the OS to support USB storage in some way.
Which is why i wrote they might have plans for it in the future

Here we have ketoprofen that used to be prescription-only because of the risk of toxic dosages, but then they halved the dose per pill and sell them in bottles of six pills apiece instead of twenty and it doesn't need a prescription any more. Yes you can buy more than one bottle but people simply don't.
