I ordered a new SD card for my n3DS which should arrive soon, so just a thing I need to know beforehand:

Can I just copy all the contents over and it'll work, or do I need to take extra steps?
Google says I have to do extra steps if I'm using Emunand, however, I'm not, just sysnand. Installed CIA's shouldn't matter on what SD it's on, as long as it's on AN SD, right?

If so, I can just copy right over. Can someone confirm this? I could test it out myself, but I'd rather not waste 30GB of write cycling and time on the off chance it doesn't work.

if you are using sysnand, you can just copy things over, though maybe after a little setup:

if the new SD card is above 32gb, format it using EmuNAND9 first ("SD Format Options..." -> "Format SD (no EmuNAND)").
this formats it with 64k clusters, and as FAT32 so the 3DS can read it.

Yeah I knew about the whole formatting thing, had a tool ready on PC ready for that.

Also nice, that should save a lot of messing about then, thanks.

if it's over 32GB, using SD Formatter would use exFAT. EmuNAND9 is recommended to use instead for formatting for FAT32

I have a question about this.
what if im copying over emunand, what are the steps that makes it possible for me to copy my whole emunand to a new sd card without losing /games/saves?

You can't use emunand9 on a sd card that is t properly formatted to fat32 beforehand. Because how can you boot the needed file if the 3ds won't read exfat or ntfs?

format the other SD for emunand min size (if using GW, use default), dump emunand, copy files, restore to RedNAND (if using GW, use emunand)

start EmuNAND9 using another SD card first? you can switch the SD card while it's running.

A9LH + Luma, and I've upgraded my SD several times, already. These are my steps:

1. Hold Y while turning on the 3DS to boot into EmuNAND9
2. press Select, and eject your current card
3. Insert your new SD, and press B to go back to the main menu
4. Go to SD Format Options
5. Format SD (no EmuNAND)
6. Eject SD card, and copy contents from old SD to new SD.
