Before you ask, I don't get the option to cancel the update and proceed with the game, I have the updates blocked with the DNS method and after I get the error of too much traffic I just get a screen saying "The software could not be updated. Returning to the Wii U Menu."

So I want to play Splatoon, but I can't download the update because then I'd have to download 5.5.2 and it would patch browserhax.

Is there any way to download the update data without downloading the update?

Extra info: I'm using the disc version of Splatoon

Game is not launching anymore?!?
Yeah, I keep getting error code 160-0103. It's only splatoon that is doing this and since it's a specific game the support site said I should update it. This didn't work and I ended up updating to 5.5.2 but sadly this didn't fix the error.

Hopefully the 5.5.2 browserhax exploit comes out soon.

You updated to 5.5.2 for no reason lol Splatoon was down today for a few hours for routine maintenance.

On my main console I installed Haxchi and updated to 5.5.2 and am having absolutely no problems.

On my second console, I cannot force Smash to play at all on 5.5.1E. I forced the update, run CFW, and Smash refuses to run unless the system update is present.. not sure what to do here. Can you not play Smash on 5.5.1? I know other games work fine, but Smash just dropped a patch in addition to the system patch, and the dropped patch seems to check for the system version.

Honestly, this wouldn't surprise me. Nintendo probably realized they are losing a ton of money from this and patching browser exploits will put a dent in us for awhile, unless until the Switch picks up some good titles.

Reduced sales of physical copies of software they don't manufacture anymore, suuure

Sure, you're not wrong. But don't act like Smash 4 isn't a selling point of the Wii U. I know people who bought a Wii U and the only game they own is Smash 4 for the competitive circuit. I'm just surprised they didn't do this to BotW either, unless they plan to.

Plus.. they lose digital sales to.

Oh, what I mean is that they don't benefit from sales of physical versions (since they're not made anymore, and the money is obtained when wholesalers/stores buy them, not the final users) and I would wager most people willing to hack their console and then some more aren't buying for a digital version which may stop being redownloadable at any time, can't be put on another console, etc

The problem is easily fixed start the wiiu up load homebrew launcher then run nnu patcher the wii u will then boot back to sysmenu then enter eshop and when it's fully loaded exit out back to sysmenu then select smash bros and the update will download and install perfectly on 5.5.1 I know it works as just done it lol.

I actually updated today assuming that the downtime was over. But I still get the memory error. I guess my Wii U just decided to hate splatoon.

Hmm very strange Splatoon is working fine for me I was just playing it.
It is pretty odd, It was working fine about a month ago when I last played it and now the disc won't work. I tried using Wii U USB helper to install splatoon onto my system itself (this was before I got desperate and updated to 5.5.2) and that still gave me the memory error.

yall im torn... ive been hacking away at tales of phantasia GBA (the USA version) and have so many documents of reverse engineering i've done
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I just found out that the EU version is better in literally every way, better sound quality, better lighting, and there's even a patch someone made to make the text look nicer
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
Do I restart now using what i've learned on the EU version since it's a better overall experience? or do I continue with the US version since that is what ive been using, and if someone decides to play my hack, it would most likely be that version?
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
@TwoSpikedHands, I'll preface this with the fact that I know nothing about the game, but, I think it depends on what your goals are. Are you trying to make a definitive version of the game? You may want to refocus your efforts on the EU version then. Or, are you trying to make a better US version? In which case, the only way to make a better US version is to keep on plugging away at that one ;)
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
I'm not familiar with the technicalities of the differences between the two versions, but I'm wondering if at least some of those differences are things that you could port over to the US version in your patch without having to include copyrighted assets from the EU version
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
@Sicklyboy I am wanting to fully change the game and bend it to my will lol. I would like to eventually have the ability to add more characters, enemies, even have a completely different story if i wanted. I already have the ability to change the tilemaps in the US version, so I can basically make my own map and warp to it in game - so I'm pretty far into it!
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I really would like to make a hack that I would enjoy playing, and maybe other people would too. swapping to the EU version would also mean my US friends could not legally play it
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I am definitely considering porting over some of the EU features without using the actual ROM itself, tbh that would probably be the best way to go about it... but i'm sad that the voice acting is so.... not good on the US version. May not be a way around that though
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
    I appreciate the insight!
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@TwoSpikedHands just switch, all the knowledge you learned still applies and most of the code and assets should be the same anyway
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    and realistically they wouldn't

be able to play it legally anyway since they need a ROM and they probably don't have the means to dump it themselves

why the shit does the shitbox randomly insert newlines in my messages
  • Veho @ Veho:
It does that when I edit a post.
  • Veho @ Veho:
It inserts a newline in a random spot.
