Hacking Update to OFW 4.88 and do EvilNat or Stay 4.86 and do REBUG Lite?

New to PS3 Mod scene (did the Wii mods back in the day)

I was ready to install REBUG 4.86.1 Lite when I learned they are gone now.

Is better to update my OFW 4.86 to 4.88 through the official PSN way and then install EvilNat 4.88? Or install REBUG on 4.86 (managed to find a source)

Is there a guide/walkthrough somewhere? So far I've just got my info through forum posts and youtube vids.

As far as I know 4.88 is hackable too so you can do as you want, the easier method should be to hack your ps3 using 4.86 HFW and then install Evilnat 4.88 on top of it or just stay on 4.86 Rebug if you don't need new features and online.

I havent done anything yet. So I probably will update to 4.88 officially then use Evilnat.

I guess no point of going to an older firmware that does seem to be supported anymore

if you're on cfw already, no need for that. just update how you normally would but with evilnat 4.88.

I'm on the normal unmodded 4.86 official firmware.

I cant seem to find if the first step its to update to 4.88 through the official psn.

Then do the usb flash ps3xploit etc.

You should be able just do the ps3xploit from 4.86 and then update using 4.88 Evilnat pup.
