Oh, I'm fully aware of those factors, the asking price is simply too high for what you're getting here. I love the novelty factor, but I don't see the hardware justifying the cost. On the flip side, the games that come with it appear to be free - if that's the case then it changes the calculus slightly.

It's basically an infinite linear slider, I can think of a few applications in a game, but the crank form factor in particular doesn't sit well with me and I believe it's just for the sake of being quirky and whimsical.
A scroll wheel on the side like the one on those Sony Ericsson phones would make much more sense to me.

$150 for a low-spec console and 12 experimental indie games is waaaay too much for mass appeal, but I can see it working as a (very) limited edition thing.

Is it going to be open source? Will users be able to create games for it later on?

This looks like a really interesting item with tons of potential... unfortunately, that high asking price (coupled with limited supply) will almost certainly doom it to a less than bright future.
Drop the price to sub £75 and it may just become a surprise success.

Hey guys, I just made a portable console in my garage. It outputs 2 colors, has 2 buttons and it has an air pump attached to the side. It will revolutionize the way we play games.

$150 each. A bargain just for you.

    Call me.

All the people complaining about price don’t understand this company did not design the console for them. Same people likely don’t have a hobby outside game piracy.

They admitted it will be a limited supply, of course they are going to be expensive. It’s also co-designed by teenage engineering who makes beautifully expensive products.

I can’t wait to pick one up.

I agree - I love TE's little beatbox devices, but high price+limited supply=lack of developers, and that's a real shame when it comes to a unique device like this.

In your basement Dick Size: 5 meters.
Kind of gives me the weird WarioWare vibe, with a crank on the side.

I saw a demonstration of the crank on their website and, from what I can gather, it is indeed a replacement for an analog stick in the form of an infinite slider - nothing more than one wiper for one axis. The way they implemented it in the demonstration was that as long as you cranked it, the character would move forward and the speed of movement depended on how fast you were turning it. Novel, but only for novelty's sake as far as I can tell. I don't think it was implemented with utility in mind at all, it's just one of those quirky little things you put in a product to stand out. This is very obviously a collector's item, not a serious system, hence the silly price tag which is indeed way too high for what you're getting in return. It's not good value, but then again, I don't think it's meant to be.

Unique product? I more like a bizarre one. Quite quirky and odd indeed.
However having such a hefty price tag makes me and mny others shy away from it.

This is going to another product killed by pricing. You can get a 3ds for 150, with a better screen and countless games. They need to lower it to at least 50 and then maybe people will buy, but for now this is too much.

Take the Essential phone for example, too overpriced at start and killed the product but now a decent phone for a few hundred.

For those of you looking at the price, it's most likely not made for you to buy it to play it as much as it's made for you to enjoy the exclusive piece of art this it is.
