IIRC, MKWii has 3.1 on it...you cannot update to the same menu you're already on. Same goes for Brawl.

You may need a different game.

As for HOW to update once you get a disc, yes. You just start the wii in recovery mode and put the game in. It should sit there like its doing nothing for several minutes (you'll hear the drive running, but the screen will still show 3.1(USA) ), then the version number in the corner of the screen should change to the new version.

I wasn't asking about recovery mode or anything like that. I asked a more specific question that is still not answered.

I'm pretty sure it's 4.1.

It's not. MKWii is from April 27, 2008 and ships with 3.1.

3.3 was the next version available on a disc update, and it came out in June 2008.

QUOTE(snikerz @ Aug 17 2011, 05:27 PM) I would recommend you to get a modchip and autoboot a homebrew disc, as your IOSes are still vulnerable to the trucha bug.
That would work since 3.1 is old enough...a chip + a LoadMii DVD might let you run Hackmii Installer from an SD and install Bootmii and HBC.

It might be a bad bluetooth module or could be a full brick.
What are the first 6 characters of the serial number (ie. LU5604)?
He can get into recovery mode.

even if he can go to recovery mode. it does not mean that the wii has good BT module, even with a dead BT module you can still boot to RM.
so i suggest that you replace first the BT module. to be sure

Update: I've gotten my hands on Super Mario Galaxy 2, ;) USA
Is there any way to launch this game from the recovery menu?

You can't launch the game, but if you have the disc in while in recovery mode it will update. Just leave it in for an hour after it starts spinning. It shouldn't take nearly that long to update, but you want to make sure you don't interrupt the update.
