Hacking TY Discs, Plextor Burner and DREs

Well it seems my Plextor PX-760 does not like TY discs. I have no idea why. A few months back I bought a spindle of 100 printable TY's DVD-R 18x, unfortunately I had somewhere around 1 good burn out of every 25 that i tried or something to that effect. I thought it was the media so I tried a spindle of Imation DVD+R x8 - these burn absolutely fine and have had no DRE problems.

I then order a new spindle of TY's they're listed as 16xspeed, when i get them and test them they're 18x and I find I can't burn them under 6x.

So I'm wondering is it my plextor or the media that is at fault and is there a fix?

could be fake TY but that site looks legit.
