Tony Hawk: Pro Skater HD to be delisted from Steam

header.jpg

Digital PC game retailer Steam has given an announcement that Tony Hawk: Pro Skater HD will soon be unavailable for purchase ever again. On July 17, publisher Activision will be pulling the game from Steam. The game will also be on an 80% weeklong deal until the removal date, so that people can buy the game for cheap before it's gone for good from the market. Activision nor Steam gave a reason as to why THPS HD will be removed, though it likely is due to the game's music content. A similar occurrence happened with Alan Wake, earlier this year, as the game was taken down, as the publishers were not willing to extend the music license. It is not known if the Xbox or PlayStation Stores will also face the same delisting, but PSN will update with new sales later today, so we could potentially have an answer by then.

In the early 00s I remember some companies replacing videogame soundtracks and republishing the games. An example I can remember was Starsky and Hutch, that had its soundtrack replaced so the game could have been added as a giveaway with breakfast cereal.

I still play THPS1 on my PS1 from time to time, I never stopped loving the game. Played much smoother on the N64 though, and looked better too. Just hated that the music was looped due to limited cartridge space.

This would be sad news ...if this 'remaster' was anywhere near as good as the game it's based on, but it's not.

If this is to do with music licensing then it will definitely also be removed from XBLA and PSN marketplaces.

Yeah, but they don't give a fuck anymore. I remember back then there were ports of games to every platform, including Symbian, even the GameBoy, and if the native game didn't run, they've made a completely new game from scratch, often with a new genre. They weren't kidding around back then...

Still happens and isn't even limited to games from major publishers. Like Super Meat Boy for instance. It's one thing to fail to relicense but when their replacement is significantly worse it does rather bother me.

Unfortunate that music licenses have to force an old game from being sold. But I suppose that's just how licensing works. If I was making a game, though, I would make sure that all the music in it was usable forever. Having a game pulled off the market, however old, is kinda sad in a way.

I hate all the licence BS. Once the game is created, the music on the game shouldn't stop it from being sold in future because of a stupid "licence".
i know
but it isn't fair that this company is still seling the game with music created by other companies, without paying theese other companies
it's not fair that the game company can still profit, while the people who created the music get zero from this new sales...

I never played THPS1 so I have no nostalgia for it. I am sad there isn't a THPS2 HD but eh. I can wait I suppose.
The game features levels from THPS2. "The game was rebuilt and polished by Robomodo using Neversoft’s original code and includes the best seven levels from THPS and THPS2 (Warehouse, School 2, Mall, Phoenix, Hangar, Marseilles and Venice). There is a combination of new school and old school pros (Nyjah Huston, Chris Cole, Eric Koston, Andrew Reynolds, Rodney Mullen, Lyn-z Adams Hawkins Pastrana, Riley Hawk and Tony Hawk himself) and the soundtrack is half classic THPS tracks and fresh ones. Multiple online multiplayer modes round out the action!"

I'm going to get it for XBLA. I have THPS2 for N64 still (actual cart and on my everdrive :)) Lots of memories with that one.

I also got it for steam since it was $2

-_- Seriously. Just because you aren't willing to pay for a license you take down the game? Holy hell that's fucking dumb. Either replace the music with royalty-free stuff if you aren't willing to pay cash or just remove it all together. This practice hurts the gaming industry imo. Now the only way to ever play this game is through piracy.
