Hello all,

This is totally outside the realm of gaming, but this is my favorite forum, so I figured I would ask anyway.
biggrin.gif

After obtaining my BBA in CIS, I am starting a new job on Monday in a fairly professional setting. The dress code is business casual, and while I have quite a few articles of clothing to wear, I want to expand my wardrobe a bit. I was curious as to what everyone else in the field wears.

I have the traditional black and khakhi (sp?) slacks and solid shirts: blue, white, and black long sleeve, but I was curious as to what else is acceptable?
What are some good color combinations for pants, shirts, shoes and ties?
Are short sleeve dress shirts and polos acceptable at most jobs?
I don't really want to wear the same colored clothing every week, so I want to mix it up a bit.

Thanks for any tips or advice.

Short sleeve dress shirts are a fashion faux-pas, but I think are accpetable, and stripes might be - same goes for polos. Just dress up normally your first day, and see what everybody else is wearing. Ties are typically necessary too.

And don't whine about selection >:(! I have to wear the same white shirt, black pants, and greyish tie every single day until I find a better job...and you probably make a ton more than I do.

Thanks SmellyUnicorn.

Does your company allow shirts in any color other than white?
Perhaps a white shirt with blue or green striping? Anything along those lines?
Or do they prefer strictly solid, nuetral colors?

Thanks again.

EDIT: Thanks Monkat.
I planned on wearing the traditional black pants, white long sleeved shirt with a conservative tie on the first day and scoping out the rest of the employees. lol
Thanks for the input. greatly appreciated.

Fashion or acceptable dress code (or anything to do with aesthetics for that matter) is not something we come to me to discuss but I will mention as the new boy you will be the one that gets to roll around under desks/cupboards plugging network/power/USB cables in or worse rewiring them (this time of year in well known to hire new graduates in so I assure you such jobs will be left/available to you).

By all means make a good impression as you walk through the door if that is something you want to do but know you will probably get your hands physically dirty before long (this is also means you might get 24 hours warning so if you have a good set of tools it will spare you using the office toolbox).

Collared shirt (polo or button-down), any non-jean pant (khaki or dress) and non-sneaker footwear (flip-flops are a no-go. Sandals only work if you're feminine

a t-shirt that looks like a tuxedo
swim trunks
flip flops with white shocks that go all the way up to your knees

jk

but I would do what WildWon said
a polo shirt, khaki pants, and some leather shoes (not ultra fancy dress ones)

Even within the states this varies a lot depending on location. The west coast, for example, generally has looser requirements on business casual than the east coast.

Thanks for the replies everyone.
It is greatly appreciated.

@FAST6191, I thought that since I was the new guy, I would have to do some dirty work. lol.
I believe I will have a slight orientation and then they mentioned logging tickets for a few weeks until I get into the swing of things. Then I will be working with vendors on their Customer Care Applications.

I currently live on the East Coast.
I will try to report back with some details once I start.

  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
Do I restart now using what i've learned on the EU version since it's a better overall experience? or do I continue with the US version since that is what ive been using, and if someone decides to play my hack, it would most likely be that version?
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
@TwoSpikedHands, I'll preface this with the fact that I know nothing about the game, but, I think it depends on what your goals are. Are you trying to make a definitive version of the game? You may want to refocus your efforts on the EU version then. Or, are you trying to make a better US version? In which case, the only way to make a better US version is to keep on plugging away at that one ;)
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
I'm not familiar with the technicalities of the differences between the two versions, but I'm wondering if at least some of those differences are things that you could port over to the US version in your patch without having to include copyrighted assets from the EU version
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
@Sicklyboy I am wanting to fully change the game and bend it to my will lol. I would like to eventually have the ability to add more characters, enemies, even have a completely different story if i wanted. I already have the ability to change the tilemaps in the US version, so I can basically make my own map and warp to it in game - so I'm pretty far into it!
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I really would like to make a hack that I would enjoy playing, and maybe other people would too. swapping to the EU version would also mean my US friends could not legally play it
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I am definitely considering porting over some of the EU features without using the actual ROM itself, tbh that would probably be the best way to go about it... but i'm sad that the voice acting is so.... not good on the US version. May not be a way around that though
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
    I appreciate the insight!
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@TwoSpikedHands just switch, all the knowledge you learned still applies and most of the code and assets should be the same anyway
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    and realistically they wouldn't

be able to play it legally anyway since they need a ROM and they probably don't have the means to dump it themselves
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
why the shit does the shitbox randomly insert newlines in my messages
  • Veho @ Veho:
It does that when I edit a post.
  • Veho @ Veho:
It inserts a newline in a random spot.

never had that i don't think
  • Karma177 @ Karma177:
do y'all think having an sd card that has a write speed of 700kb/s is a bad idea?
trying to restore emunand rn but it's taking ages... (also when I finished the first time hekate decided to delete all my fucking files )
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@Karma177 that sd card is 100% faulty so yes, its a bad idea
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
even the slowest non-sdhc sd cards are a few MB/s
  • Karma177 @ Karma177:
@The Real Jdbye it hasn't given me any error trying to write things on it so I don't really think it's faulty (pasted 40/50gb+ folders and no write errors)
