So I'm in the same, exact situation as OP.
My goal is to have game backups, like game card dumps, and play Smash Ultimate online. (I'm a tournament go-er. Online is a MUST.)
Sounds like if I even want to get anywhere close to having a hacked Switch, but remain undetected; I'll need a secnd Switch?

What about dongles like SX OS and the new R4 that was dropped? Don't that have any bearing on keeping the Switch anonymous to Nintendo? Are they achieving anything further than what's current for CFWs?

Not getting banned and hacking are mutually exclusive; you can't always have your cake and eat it too. Hell, there are some people who got banned even without hacking their console. While Nintendo were rather lax on bans in the past, they've stepped up their game with the Switch and the situation will most likely not improve as the hacking scene grows.

Man ... I don't remember ever going through these concerns during the psp and vita cfw days . .. I have a 3.0 switch .. Never updated only play binding of Isaac. Wondering myself if I should do the same but am waiting for the point where the risks are lower

If you're playing game backups, then you cannot play online without getting banned. We might get an emuNAND solution to this down the road, but for now it cannot be done.

You could make a NAND backup before you start hacking and playing pirated games, have your fun, and then restore your old NAND backup from before the hackery when you're ready to play online with Super Smash Bros. In principle, this should work, but the risk is yours to take. We might also have emuNAND before Super Smash Bros. comes out.

Aside from this or waiting for an emuNAND solution, your only option is to purchase two Switch systems.

Sheeetttt, even the dongles won't provide any level of security!? Wow...
@Draxzelex
Dongles do nothing to mitigate one's ban risk. That's not how they work.

I've listed the only things that will mitigate one's ban risk.

There will likely never be a point where hacking is safer, especially if it involves piracy. However, there has only ever been one confirmed case of a homebrew only ban and that user also cleared error logs on 5.X. As long as you never clear your error logs and you do not play any backups, your risk of getting banned is very low.

Hi guys. I am very new to the Switch Hacking scene. I ordered a Jig from Amazon, as well as an USB to C cable. My concern is whether or not I should proceed with hacking. As far as that goes, I would only be doing Save Editing, but only for offline save use. I hardly ever play games online on my Switch. Debating on whether or not to hack comes down to the following:

- What is my ban risk if I only do the Save Editing?
- Don't really want to miss out on new and upcoming games (Mega Man 11, Smash, etc.). This and above are 2 main concerns.
- Worth hacking? I only have 1 Switch, no access to TX SX OS or whatever that is...

Thoughts on all of this GREATLY appreciated :)
rpgwaiter made a video on this topic.

You should ask yourself: Am I a pirate?
At this time there are no other reasons worth risking a ban other than pirating, so if you are low on money or just a bad person you should hack

All the interesting emulators don't have full compatibility or a great stability, this will change in the next 6 month or a year, hopefully Switch will be the best emulator, as of now all the most optimized emulators can be used on cheap consoles like psp or 2DS (if you want gamecube the wii is very cheap).

If you care about your Switch and you aren't an impulsive person I suggest you to wait, in the future we will have more information and ways to not get banned and enjoy emulators, we are in the early stages of hacking and I recommend it only to enthusiasts

New to Switch scene, still using an original chipped Wii. Will any new Switch I purchase now in US be mod-able? Or have there been hardware updates that render the new ones un-modable?

Check the serial number of any Switch you buy from this thread to see if they are ipatched or not.

Hi again guys. I am still on the fence about hacking my Switch or not. If I save my next 2 paychecks, I should have enough to buy a 2nd Switch. I would use my current one for save editing and hacking, and keep that one offline, and the 2nd Switch keep updated and legit. Should I go this route? Is it worth getting a 2nd Switch? Help appreciated :)

Do you care THAT much about on line gaming or being banned? IF the answer to this is no then no, buying a second system is totally NOT WORTH IT

If your just save editing and running homebrew apps it’s very unlikely that you’ll get banned :P (unless you edit save data for online games)

Ok, but what if I still connect online for game updates and use eshop? I don’t want to miss out on upcoming games...

Please stop, if you wait 2-3 months I'm sure you will be able to hack and not get banned online (thanks to the emunand), hacking now is only for enthusiasts, read my post before this one

I don't plan to pirate or play game backups. I was only going to do hacking for save editing. I know there is a ban risk for anything hacking related, but not sure how high ban risk is for save editing...

the only way you could get banned from save editing is editing save files for online games (like Splatoon 2) or if the save backup/restore tool crashes and generates a error log

You've already been told that the ban risk isn't very high just for save-editing.

Ok, thanks so much! But, should I get a 2nd Switch and keep 2nd one online/legit? My main concern is missing out on new and upcoming games if I just have 1 Switch. If I keep my only Switch offline, I won't be able to access eshop and update games I already have. If I save my next 2 paychecks, I can get a 2nd Switch.
