The PlayStation 4 reaches 102.8 million sales, becomes second best-selling home console of all time

New statistics show that the PlayStation 4 is one of the most popular game consoles of all time. According to Sony's recent financial results for the quarter, the PlayStation 4 has just reached a massive 102.80 million sales. This officially places the PS4 as the second highest-selling home video game console, dethroning both its progenitor, the original PlayStation, and Nintendo's massively popular Wii in one fell swoop. The only console that surpasses such high sales numbers is the PlayStation 2, which sold over 155 million units during its reign. If you factor handheld consoles into the equation, then the PS4 is only the fourth highest-selling, beaten out by the original Game Boy/Color line, and the Nintendo DS.

While attaining such a high amount of sales is impressive, it appears that as the PlayStation 4's lifespan comes to a close, sales are beginning to slowly decrease. Sony originally predicted that the console would sell 15 million units this fiscal year, but they've lowered their projections to a slightly smaller 13.5 million.

Windows 10 works fine for me *shrug*
Wouldn't you want something better than "fine" though? Wouldn't you want stuff like customizable os animations? Animated backgrounds? An os that you can modify and make your own since it's open source and have multiple distros instead of just one ui and interface? None of the applications windows runs in the background that you can't close?
Much better performance os-wise?
... Well to be fair you can dual boot both oses so it's a win win for windows and Linux fans
I can understand I might not Change your mind, but linux just looks amazing. I'll leave you with the subreddit r/unixporn

Lol you know linux is much better
The only con it has is less compatibility and apps but besides that it's much better
2 years from now most people will be using or at least have heard of Linux

Nah. People said that 2 years ago, and 4 years ago, and 6 years ago, 8, 10, 12,.... The big Linux takeover is NEVER happening. And the subject was "gaming pc". Even with Steam Proton and Lutris, it's a mess on the driver side of things and has been since like, forever. If a gaming rig was my intention - I would never leave Windows for Linux unless some things changed. But it's certainly not happening in another 2 years. I've heard the "Just wait!!! They're improving!" thing for as long as I can remember. I was 20 when Linux was first released. I've had my fair share of experience with it. To each their own, but my personal opinion of it is not a good one. I'd be interested in what ways you feel it is "much better", but we're quite a bit off topic already. :)

Edit: I see you listed reasons in the post directly above. However, I don't agree with most of them. Customizable os animations can be done in Windows. Animated backgrounds in Windows? Check. An os that you can modify and make your own? Yup. None of the applications windows runs in the background that you can't close? You mean like critical Windows processes? Pretty certain you can't close the critical Linux processes without trouble either. Much better performance os-wise? Not in my experience, ever. Unless I was trying to run a specific version of Windows on an antiquated potato that wasn't ever meant to run it. Tip: Do a Google image search for Rainmeter desktops, or watch some YouTube videos of Best Rainmeter desktops and see what is possible with just that one single application in Windows. ;)

People are waiting for a price drop during the Christmas season since the PS5 is supposed to get released next year. Or at least to get offered discounts and get the console with a few games included.

Sony is definitely in a good spot at the moment with the home console market basically all to themselves. Which isn't to say the PS4 doesn't deserve some accolades, it has the best library of exclusives among current gen consoles, but without its competition (XB1/WiiU) being so severely lacking, I doubt it would've sold much more than 80 million units. Its library doesn't have anywhere near as much depth as the PS2's or Wii's (even excluding shovelware).

It's impressive.

It's not my thing, though: when I glance at the exclusives of the system, there's hardly anything that would peak my interest. this is, of course, totally because of my preferences in gaming. I can bang on about "the same games over and over again", but this is really just a sign that I'm getting older. :(
(I definitely have less time for games, that's for sure).

The current gen is singlehandedly stunting any real traction for ray tracing being a thing. It's well documented that if the consoles are that deficient, a lot of the big budget publishers *will not* invest to go past that.

So even those devout on pc need the consoles to actually be at least somewhat more capable than they currently are.
Is the return of ray tracing*/ray tracing being rendered a real time thing that notable or just this year's equivalent of physx? It makes things slightly shinier (possibly literally) and the swinging light effects creating fun shadows are certainly cool but as far as extra options for gameplay or styles thereof I don't much see it.

*I mainly remember it as a fun thing people did in qbasic and dos but that is probably besides the point.

windows 10 is trash, every big update causes huge amount of pcs to stop working
my laptop almost died twice to these shitty feature updates

Oh, come one now. The best OS Microsoft has released? Nope. But trash? Again, nope. That "huge amount" you state is actually a very, VERY small percentage in comparison to the number of PC's running Win10 that have no problems whatsoever.

And since the console launched i only had one issue where the console didn't wanted to give me my disc back but thanks to the engineering at Sony and the screw that controls the disc drive mechanism i was able to get the disc back out
Funny, mine recently started turning on by itself and ejecting discs randomly.

my prediction is as long as the Earth's population keeps growing, console sales in the future will continue to beat out older ones no matter if they're that good or not

Working fine for me. Windows 7 would be my OS of choice if it didn't shit itself and get corrupted. I've had perfect stability, just let me use what I use and you use, what you use and move on.

you're the minority then, most people prefer win 7 too bad they are ending its support
