Hacking The M3 Sakura FAQ

Hi,
I've been reading this thread for a long time now, but never registered, but today I've got a problem. When booting the new Sakura firmware, all I got is 2 black screens at the start, before even having to chose between sakura and Touchpod.
I tried both the installer and the SYSTEM folder above, for the same result. Even formating the SD doesn't work.
Does someone has the same problem, or an idea how to fix it ? (My M3 is a european one, and Sakura 1.12 works perfectly)

First of all, welcome to GBAtemp Tarkun!

It could be that your download was corrupted. Try redownloading Sakura and try again. If it still messes up, let us know.

The homebrew compatibility seems to be very good now. The M3 Sakura Homebrew Compatibility List shows that there are only a few homebrew titles that don't work now, as compared to more than half that didn't work with 1.12+1. But TouchPod still handles the few that don't work. I would love to see an in-game menu and text reader on Sakura. The CycloDS still has NDS-Wii connectivity, Evolution Tools and a highly-accessible development team that speaks English, but I think that Sakura is now a true contender among the top flashcarts.

While rewriting the old FAQ, I've been testing links to see what works and what doesn't, and I just noticed that the Japanese M3 Sakura website (www.m3sakura.jp) has been taken down. I wonder what's going on with them?

First of all, welcome to GBAtemp Tarkun!

It could be that your download was corrupted. Try redownloading Sakura and try again. If it still messes up, let us know.

Here's the german Version of M3 Sakura. It contains latest 4.2e Touchpod fw and morning timer was also removed. Newest Cheat-File from Narin inside!
It is fully translated to german. Read NFO for more details! You can add it to your Downloads if you want, Densetsu3000.

It would have been nice, if you had at least given me credit since you used my translation as a base. Have you tested yours on Sakura? I think some of the lines won't fit on the small screen.

Anyone who has put any work into translating Sakura 1.34 release should be credited. I (as well as other translators/skinners) make it a point to include all people involved in the credits, so I would hope that everyone else does the same.

A spanish user of ElOtroLado.net has reported what looks like a new bug... if you use Soft Reset and then try to play a game that hasn't been "configured" (as in no soft reset selected) the NDS hangs

Let's hope they fix it for the next release.

No, I did not use yours as the template or something else. Second is that I mentioned it not to use for commercial usage, which means I don't mind if M3 Team get's it or not.

Ich habe das englische als Template genomen und dann genauso übersetzt. Es mag sein, dass ich vielleicht ein oder zwei Wörter von deinem übernommen habe, aber mehr auch nicht!

I forgot to mention, that the file I've uploaded, is the original one (Taken from handheldsources), so if you want to have correct translations - use the messages.00X files, that are uploaded here by the translators

I bought it on a french website, so I think it's a european one, but I'll try the Asian and Japanese tonight...

Reading the Known Bugs section, I think you misunderstood what I wrote. The bug goes like this:

- You launch a game that has been previously configured to have Soft Reset On.
- You use said Soft Reset to go back to the firmware.
- You try to launch a game that hasn't been configured (meaning that Soft Reset is not enabled).
- NDS hangs trying to load the game.

I hope this clarifies a little bit the issue.

P.S. If the 2nd game has been configured to have Soft Reset On it plays fine.

I just thought of something. If the 1.34 firmware already has all the languages included, do we still need the Spanish and German versions? What's the difference between them and the multi-language version? The Spanish version has a Spanish skin, but does the German version have a German skin? If not, then I'm afraid it's just a redundant file.

We could just put skins for each language into the multi-language firmware and have everything in one file.

Apart from the skin everything else should be the same, yes. The only thing that comes to mind is that if I remember correctly the english distro only had english Touchpod "updated" to 4.2e, but that's easily fixed by copying all the other language files as well.

All of the language files for TouchPod have already been copied over to the Sakura distro

I also have this problem with Sakura 1.34 (iSakura 1.12 boot flawlessly), I tried to have only system folder and nothing else on the card without success. Reformating the card did'nt work either.
It was only when I forced a fat16 reformat that It booted and gave me the choice between Sakura and touchpod, if I select TouchPod, touchPod is launched successfully (I didn't tried any roms since I wanted to see the new Sakura) but when I choose Sakura, I just get the loading screen and nothing else.
I tried to press A during the loading of Sakura(not during initial boot) as some said it could solve the problem but it didn't worked.
I'm using the US/EUR M3 card with a DS language set to French (maybe I could try to change the DS language once formated with fat16).

Update: tried to change the language to English or Japanese, with GBA pack or Rumble Ram pack and without any extention and still freezing at the loading pink screen.

Update2: now I remember why I formated the card with Fat32. With fat16, Touchpod was working fine but Sakura complained that it was not able to use clusters with a size greater or lower than 32k size (dont remember well). My SD card is a 4Go.
Could it be that the chooser loader is not able to boot using Fat32 but if using Fat16 with High Capacity Card, the cluster size prevent Sakura to boot and while the previous version printed error on screen, the 1.34 have the same problem but doesn't print anything?
