I have followed this guide to mod my switch (V1 unpatched) https://switch.hacks.guide/user_guide/getting_started/

But what i remember from doing another switch a couple years ago was that i had to backup keys, but this guide doesn't mention it (or i'm blind lol). Is this step not neccesary anymore?

I'm not sure either as I'd have to check where they are usually stored and whether it's covered in backups mentioned here, but you can back them up by using Lockpick_RCM.
Also thanks for telling me that NH Guide has been updated, it's the first time I see the current layout.

Are game forwarders still a thing for GB/GBA games, etc., via RetroArch? I'd like to have the icons on my home screen, but I remember that some time ago it wasn't recommended.

I personally use whatever spray I have at hand for the glassy surfaces and a microfiber cloth.

I just ordered this recently, to clean my computer, TV, tablets and portable consoles screens. It should last me until I die. Previously, I was using a bottle of Nexxtech screen cleaner from The Source (former Radio Shack). Most important thing is to use something that won't hurt your screen, and something that doesn't leave streaks behind. As @Blythe93 suggested, a microfiber cloth is important so you won't scratch your screen.

I just tried updating my Switch to 18.10 using Daybreak. I also tried using a corresponding HATS repo to update atmosphere/bootloader and now I'm getting a black screen on boot. I'm actually finding HATS isn't seemingly anywhere anymore (and may not be recommended).

Is there an up to date guide with file sources around on how to properly get everything up and running again?

Edit: Small update. I tried to reinstall Atmosphere, now when I try booting, I get the error of

Panic occurred while running Atmosphere.

My emuMCC corrupted a month ago. I hadnt backed up anything for a while (I know thats my bad). All I was able to save somehow is a folder with 5 folders inside (Album, Contents, save, savemeta and temp). In the save folder is one file named: 0000000000000065, its size is 109mb so Im hoping thats all my save files. However I cant find any tutorials that help me convert that file into something that can be restored in JKSV, Please let me know if you have any leads!

You experienced first hand the risks of updating with pre-made packs. It's always safer to manually update. At least you know what's going on. Try to read this guide.

The root contents seem to be ok. What is the payload you're injecting, and what are you using to inject it? Or are you using a modchip? Considering you're using a Mac, try to set the archive bit in Hekate (Tools > Arch Bit (bottom right)).

Edit: Re-reading your post, I think I can assume you're using a modchip (red boot.dat is the hint). I don't have a modchip myself, but reading this page of the guide, in that case, you would just rename your hekate_ctcaer_6.2.1.bin to payload.bin. That should let you boot to hekate. As for the payload to install in the /bootloader/payloads/ folder, I would just put plain old fusee.bin. You can get it from the Atmosphere zip file you downloaded earlier. It's in the Atmosphere folder, and it's called reboot_payload.bin. Copy that file to the /bootloader/payloads/ folder and rename it fusee.bin. Then when you launch Hekate, you can then launch fusee.bin (atmosphere CFW in fact). Don't forget to also install sys-patch.

Unfortunately, save data is not stored on the SD card even when you are using emuMMC. It is stored within the internal memory and needs to backed up manually via a save manager in advance. Sys-patch is a sysmodule that enables installing pirated games. If that is not your prerogative, then I would ignore it and not even bother with sys-patch. If that is something you wish to do, I highly recommend downloading the patches instead from here.

I know that's not what you meant, but technically, when using emuMMC, save data is stored on the SD card, as the emuMMC resides on the SD card, and the saves are inside the emuMMC. But as you mention, with a corrupted emuMMC, probably impossible to recover them now.

So, by extension, I understand you recommend to avoid using the sys-patch sysmodule. Any reasons for that? In my humble opinion, sys-patch works as well, if not better, than using sigpatches. And it's a cleaner installation, compared to installing a bunch of patches files on the SD card.

I'd updated with them in the past. I'd run into plenty of headaches of doing it manually. Seems there's no way to win.
I did eventually get it fixed. Such a pain, though.

I think that's what we're all here for, haha. I Will attempt it this weekend to see if im able to get to Hekate with no issues.

Okay, first, it's atmosphere 1.7.1, and firmware 18.1.0 (you can check in your Switch settings). As far as I know, the firmware has an internal list of available updates for your games. So when you tried to launch Zelda totk, it knew you were not using the latest update available and it just gave you a notice about it. You can usually still launch the game.

But can't wait to get it back, I'd like to put Android on it or something that's good at emulators for GB, DS, 3ds and such.

Hey people,
i am in the actual fw and atms Firmware. I installed the actual sigpatches a month ago. Unfortunately the game "thank goodness you're here" won't run. It always tries to connect with the Internet. Has anybody an idea? Are newer sigpatched needed?
