Hacking Supercard DSTwo Plus - 3DS Compatibility without Gateway mode?

I've just got a quick question about the Supercard DSTwo Plus and how it works on the 3DS. I know people have said not to use Gateway mode on it (I wouldn't anyway) but the last thing I'd want to do is put this in my 3DS and find out that it goes into Gateway mode by default. Is there a 'safe' way of doing this, or should I just use my old DS Lite?

Don't put any launcher.dat on your SD card, then it can't boot in Gateway mode.

Don't use this. There's really no advantage to it over, say, Luma.

Use the DSTWO for DS games- 3DS titles don't benefit from being loaded via a flashcart at all.

if he just wants to play ds games and already using luma dstwo drains battery there is no reason to use dstwo just sell it and buy a r4 for 5 buck
