I just saw that Snes9xTYLmecm is capable of playing Super Mario RPG. Is there any slowdown or problems of that nature occurring while playing using this emulator. Also how does the save process work? Can I save at any time, or can I only save when the game allows me to?

I have to say though I'm shocked at hearing Super Mario RPG supposedly runs well on the PSP. The special chip thats involved with this game, how was that handled in the emulation process?

I can't tell you for sure, since I've not tested this game, but I think emulators generally run a little bit more smoothly on PSP Slim than the original model (Because the slim has more RAM). Other than that, it's pretty much the same quality on latest PSP models.

The game will lag, noticeably. It isn't absolutely horrible, but that emulator did give me mega slowdown at the beginning in Bowser's Castle. I didn't make it much further than that, as I have no patience when it comes to game slowdown.

Can anything be done in terms of adjusting the settings to atleast make the lag less noticeable? Hopefully someday this game can eventually be played on a handheld with little to no lag. Its defintely one of my favorite RPG's.

just play around with the settings
till you can get the game running at a speed you like
Is there a way to change the settings to make the game run at full speed though?

I was wondering the same thing. At the end of the day I'm really particular about framerate issues. So if tinkering with the settings will only offer a slight improvement, I'll pass. But if we can get anything close to full speed, WOW. I would love to play this game on a handheld.

I think the Euphoria versions can run the game very well. Though there are times when it is noticeably slow, it's at a very tolerable speed. However, that's all the version of this emulator is good for, really. When I was running other games like R-Type III for example, it ran even slower than the TYL version of the emulator no matter how much I've tweaked the settings.

I played all the way through SMRPG on snes9x TYL. There was minor slowdown but nothing game breaking. You won't get constant full speed, so don't spend too much time on it. But it'll still run well within the bounds of playability.

The game run alright, slowdown here and there but the game is playable. the saves are handled the same way the saves are handled on a emulator (standard save + save state)

you can't really squeeze a lot more performances from the settings, it's limited by the hardware.
the euphoria build allow a bit more fps stability at the cost of sound quality.

I just realized I've beaten this game around 4 times... all on emulators. First time was on an old eMac computer when I was like 11.

I just tried it with SNES9x Euphoria R5 Beta 3, the most recent one (Feb 2011 updated), and it runs Mario RPG at full speed, all the way through the first bowser fight and you fall into the cieling pipe. Use that emulator. I'd link to it, but I'm not 100% sure the website I found it is allowed to be linked here.

Did you need to tweak the emulator settings at all? Also does it matter if you have a PSP Go or 3000?

I've tried the latest Snes9x Euphoria (psp slim) and I'm well impressed with the improvements. It's definitely much more playable than it used to (some really minor slowdowns in Mushroom Way, maps with more sprites, but really nothing to be concerned about). HOWEVER, the world map doesn't show at all!!! It's all black, no Mario sprite, no locations showed. Only the location names are displayed, so it is still playable like this but not ideal... (I like the design of the world map...). I've tried tweaking a few things in the rendering, including the options in the hack menu, but no luck. Has anyone experienced this? And solved it?

No, Default settings. PSPGo and PSP3000 (and the others) all have the same specs, so performance should be identicle. I used a PSPGo though, for reference.

I got to the Geno cutscenes last night, the world map appeared just fine to me. Not only that, I've noticed no problems whatsoever with the emulator, minus a couple of very very minor (~55FPS lowest) slowdowns with 0 frameskip.
Are you use you're using the correct version? Again, I am using SNES9x Euphoria R5 Beta 3, NOT SNES9x Euphoria Beta 3, or SNES9x Euphoria R3.

Holy cow! I was thinking of looking up if this game would work well on my PSP. I played most of it on the Wii, then some on DSTWO, but it's only (mostly) playable on DSTWO if you have no sound. Just watching a little of Rydian's video shows that it runs very well. I am totally gonna get this Euphoria emulator and play this game again, from the beginning! I'm not expecting perfection, but it seems like this is a very playable way to ...play, this, on the go. Yay! :D

Wow, great topic, the video posted by Rydian and the other emulator NES9x Euphoria R5 Beta 3 OMG! Gonna try 'em all. Thank you, amazing!

Yeah, definitely using Euphoria R5 Beta 3, and I have that strange world map blackness bug... But the latest 0.42 TYL mecm mentioned by Rydian seems to be working fine, and pretty decent speed too, so I guess I'll stick to that one.
