This was revealed sometime last week and I'm amazed that no one started a thread about it.

    In game screens:

And the game that causes you death screens:

    From IGN:
"Square Enix's latest is a bit removed from what we've come to expect from the Japanese RPG leader. Famitsu.com has the first word on an all new "horror adventure" game from the company called Nanashi no Game.

In this DS title, you play as a character whose friend disappears from school one day. Exploring the friend's home, you discover that he'd just taken delivery of a videogame. While resembling a classic 2D RPG, this game is actually said to be cursed. It's believed that those who play this game die within a week.

The game -- the DS title, not the cursed one -- takes place from the first person. You play by holding the system rotated 90 degrees, like a book, with the world expanding out before you in 3D on both screens. All your actions are controlled with the stylus -- everything from moving forward and looking up, to opening a door.

Outside of being a rare first person 3D game for the DS, the title also makes use of a technology that makes two speakers produce 3D sound. You'll apparently be able to hear sounds coming from behind you. Square Enix recommends that players play the title with headphones.

Nanashi no Game will hit the DS in Japan on July 3"

Sounds very interesting, though to be honest sounds like many Japanese horror films but its very different from the usual SE stuff I hope it gets released elsewhere. A game trailer is here: http://gonintendo.com/?p=41256

    WANT WANT WANT WANT.

The 2D RPG within a 3D RPG sounds like a really awesome idea.
    Especailly with that mock DS.

It is not an RPG, first person adventure. Of course the game inside is RPG.

You play an RPG in an RPG game.

Hope it gets released around here.

Nice to see Square-Enix trying something different..

I like the idea of a "cursed game".. [IMG]

edit: also, the name of the game means "Nameless game", loved that! XD
I wonder how they'll translate that [IMG]

Ok guys whatever makes you happy, you call it an RPG and I'll call it a driving game because you are "driven" to solve this mystery.

We could call it a simulation, because you're "simulating" a situation involving a cursed game.
We could call it a puzzle game, because you have to solve the "puzzle" of the curse.
We could call it a strategy game, because you need to develop a STRATEGY to end the curse.

The demo is kind of hard to navigate, well with a mouse. How will we get past the chasm in the room?
