There definitely will not be a software mod, and I doubt we see modchip mods for many months, or possibly a year or more.

Personally, I don't mind waiting 1 or 2 years.
I've got my Switch 1 with a lot of games still to play and not much time to play them.

I'll buy it day one, turn it on to see if everything's working properly and then put it in its box while I wait.

So far we know the Switch 2 is directly based on Switch hardware and is even backwards compatible with the previous gen.
With the great patching of 2018, only way to mod a patched Switch, Lite and Oled is thru a modchip.

Of course, with new hardware comes new measures against modding. Would be funny if they unintentionally brought back the paperclip jig but of course it would never happen and + if it DID happen you can't just trigger it because the Ounce's joycons don't use sliding rails to connect, rather they seem to use extra plugs. (The future, wow!)

So far exploits are nothing since it just got announced. I'm betting on modchip.

But if it DID get hacked, then it would be Gamecube all over again, so i'd except some kind of Nintendon't-esque homebrew that runs Switch games... which would easily be redundant because of the capability to keep digital old switch games, so maybe we'd get an app to install Switch 1 NSPs
And we could probably develop something to run Switch 1 homebrew? Either natively or thru some kind of layer

Oh and emulation. Being based on the previous Switch, i was at first thinking you just edit Ryujinx source code and voila. But...
Much like the rest of the 9th gen i wouldn't except emulation just yet. I mean, our only known spec is that apparently our little Ounce has twelve gigs of dedotated wam, and most computers have like 16 gigs, with operating systems using up some of the ram. The Legion Go 2 will have a 32 gig option and is said to be really powerful with the Z2 Extreme CPU. So it would be at least plausible unlike PS5 or Xbox Series. (The xbox one isn't even modded yet! Whaddya except from Mr. Windows)
But with Big N attacking everybody i'd safely recommend keeping it private for now

Since this is a thread about purely speculation, i'd decide this would be the go-to thread for Switch 2 modding guesses
Well, they do slide. They just slide the other way. Jigs would just have to be designed a bit differently. Of course, that'll never happen a second time. The 3DS also had an unusual method of modding (using a magnet) that also exploited a recovery mode, perhaps we will see something similarly unusual on the Switch 2. Any recovery mode left in the firmware can potentially be exploited but it's unlikely there will be anything that severe again.

Might just be like the xbox 360 where there won't be softmods, or if nintendo is really smart this time around it could be as secure as the xbox one and series x, but hopefully it's modable like switch 1

I'd agree it's unlikely, but not impossible. If hackers can find vulnerability in PS5 it's not impossible for Switch 2. However I get it no model after model 1 of Switch 1 had a softmod. Most likely it would require a modchip at best, at worse we get no hack.

I wonder how many people will buy one and keep it boxed on v1.0 only to be opened when it's exploitable. I know at least one person that will do that...
No, you now know two

Also, there's always the MIG switch, I mean I don't have one but whoever does, I'm pretty sure they will test and report if it works.

But this is more for the running Switch1 backups.

When it comes to the homebrew aspect, the OS, if based on Horizon, has no disclosed exploits or known flaws.
So Atmopshere and all the other homebrews might in theory work or be ported but it won't happen until an entry point is discovered.

I already assume that there won't be a webrowser to reduced any browser hacks.

let wait and see and watch this space, let the cat and mouse chase begin

hopefully it works since it can use the exact data of a real switch cartridge but nintendo can always patch it like with r4.
And then Aliexpress, if they somehow can, fights back with Mig Switch 2 RTS Gold /j
Begun, the clone wars have

one thing about Nintendo consoles, they are the easiest to mod it seems. I hope the screen is OLED at least on first release as i haven't seen hardware specs yet.

That statement was true untill the switch.
So far all of the console either had soft mod or cardridge slot related hack. Switch V1 had a the tegra RCM unsigned code flaw, but since then, they have tighted their security and the Switch Horizon OS have no known issue past FW 4.1.0.
In a way very well done to them because piracy kills the industry but homebrew keep it alive.

Anyway we have plenty of time before we get our hands on it and I will most likely keep mine boxed for a little while as I'm enjoy the current switch as it is now

I foresee the future, the exploit will be called fusee-tuwee and you'll need to attach a female usb-c to usb-a adapter to the joycon port to upload the payload. Only the first 10 consoles made will be affected so check your Switch 2 because you're gonna be the lucky one.

Connect usb c to USB c between the ports and hold down b button on the joycon. Boom rcm ;p
