It just takes the pixels and makes voxels out of them, it doesn't actually create a stereoscopic effect. That's different all together.

The video is laggy because of the recording software. It runs at full speed on my PC:Holy hell that looks cool. It's so laggy though, and it kind of sucks that everything appears to be the same depth.
This could be done better with SNES games, giving each layer a different 3D depth.
