Hi!

Is there a working Snes emulator for the Wii U ?

I would love to play some games on the Wii U Gamepad.

If there isn't a working Snes emulator, Which other emulators are available?

Such clickbait title.
Their is no snes emulator atm but you can inject snes to snes VC with loadiine.

Retroarch devs just got a wii u and have some commits for the wii u so that is something to look foward too.

We have a NES and Gameboy emulator. Neither have sound.

They'll get it done, the main problem is the dev team was lacking a physical console to work with, as of a few days ago, a fellow Temper obtained a Wii U for them to test on. Heck, they stated that they can use some preexisting code to use as a base, so that's well on its way :P

they can probably adapt most of the wii retroarch codding, since its the same processor architeture only stronger, the graphic emulation side of things will need to do some rewriting due to being gx2 on wiiu mode.

That'll take the longest, I think, as GX2 is not an easy language to use, but the power will give it a huge advantage for sure.

  1. Use retroarch (I don't recommend it)
  2. Use virtual console injection
  3. Install homebrew channel on Vwii and use snex9xGX (recommend it)
Yes with the last option, you can't use wii u game pad to play the game, but you can still use it as viewing screen, and there is special builds of the emulator to use wii u pro controller, ps3 or other HID controls beside the classic controller. The emulators run just as good for what is running on, so is that bad, I personally still use it until a snes9xgx port of the vwii emulators are ported over. Hoping they do sometime, most of the emulators ESPECIALLY GENESIS PLUS GX is great.

If you must know, i don't recommend using retroarch, i personally think it could use a better presentation GUI for basic simple users like me.

RetroArch Wii U isn't that bad at all, it's a helluva lot better than the pitiable Snes emulator for the VC, but I digress. VC injection for Snes is spotty at best, some games don't work at all, some have audio issues, SuperFX, SA-1, etc chips don't work with injection methods *shrug*. Snes9xGX with the Wii U pro mod and other fixes (BurntLasagna I think?) is the best version of Snes9x on Wii, but Snes9x 1.54 is best for Wii U.

I doubt any of the vwii emus will be ported, hardly an interest was shown even porting retroarch, and that runs on everything.
Also, the GUI of retroarch is fine. Now prefer the XMB retroarch menu, but with that not being ported (and likely won't be ported) I can deal with the default GUI.

I didn't say the retroarch was bad, i just don't use it, if the emulator was more presented like Snes9XGX on vwii, i probably would use it.

Is just my opinion, but i would find it easier to use this kind of emulator

Than a emulator that look like this

I'm not saying anything bad about retroarch, is a multiple purpose emulator and it works, i just don't find as appealing compared to other available options.

If RetroArch Wii U had an XMB GUI, I would like that more as well, sadly, I don't know who'd be interested in writing a new GUI. As long as you recommend that most recent Snes9xGX mod on here, the one that has no menu music and no audio tinny issues, then that's fine.

Well i mean there is worst emulators out there, but snes9xgx isn't bad, and it supports wii u pro controls and even other hid devices like ps3/ps4 or whatever. Only bad thing is the downscaled resolution and not being able to use game pad. Other than that, is not total loss for how long is been developed. It even has special build for that msu-1 chip, so you can do music replacement with audio cd quality and videos. Is a lot well developed. :)

Of course retroarch isn't anything bad at all but it just my opinion, the presentation could be better and simple for more basic people. Something like genesis plus gx is. I remember when genesis emulator first on wii was just menus and text but it improved a lot, now is nice overlays and graphics, for everything and supports sega cd, genesis accessories master system and game gear which is just about as good as Kega fusion. (minus the 32x emulation or some romhack homebrew with high rom file sizes Like pier solar)

Is not really fair to compare something that was just made possible last year to something that existed for many years but is just dependent on how much effort someone will put into making it possible. There was many determined people to make homebrew for wii than there is for wii u so it may be hard to expect some things. But since we do have access to all wii homebrew on wii u is totally great thing.

Again don't play on PC, nor would play that. And who knows, some those "issues" could just be your PC.

When I used to game on PC, I'd pirate PC games all the time, and some yes would crash often, maybe they were bad rips or something. I've had my SeriesX for over 2 years now and never have had a game crash yet, or any game breaking bugs. I have seen weird bugs like NPC walking thru floors or walls, but not often.

@BigOnYa PC games like to crash, satisfactory crashes every like 8 hours for me, there's some kinda leak with unreal engine objects so it hits the max object count and crashes

and minecraft had a memory leak, over time the game slowed down more and more and i saw the ram usage slowly increasing, eventually it would crash if i left the game on all night

console games on the other hand have to be better optimized, theres less resources so those leaks get caught early and fixed, is my guess
