Correct me, if I'm wrong, but did any of DX titles either get a graphical change or the core of the game was completely change?
Nope. That's what makes this obviously not a port. Every "DX" version just has the game plus DLC. 'Sm4sh DX' wouldn't have Ice Climbers, Snake, Ridley, or Inklings. It wouldn't have Daisy or female Pokemon trainer. It wouldn't have any returning stages. It wouldn't have lighting improvements or other visual changes. Etc and so forth.

MK8D is MK8 plus DLC and plus 1 FPS. That's it.

Well, I'm pretty sure MK8D have at least some new characters. Two items boxes instead of one and a new battle mode.

Oh I guess you're right, Inklings, Bowser Jr and Dry Bones were added. And people call Nintendo lazy, but even their ports add more to the game.

I’m not convinced that it was built from scratch. A heavily upgraded port is more realistic.
this^
and that is not a bad thing, the game looks fresh.
i rly love how they bumped up the effects of elements (fire/ice/other chara skills).

game looks overall more vivid and popish with better contrast and sharpness, lovely portraits (all the ssb characters included).
what else do you want!

Really this debate has its roots in the fighting game genre as a whole. There's not a lot of varied gameplay in fighters, most of them have been the same since SNES. That doesn't mean the new Soul Calibur game is a port of the Gamecube version, it just means nobody wants to fix what isn't broken.

Soul Calibur 6 is a port of Soul Calibur 5. I mean, it looks the same. So, that logic applies right?
