Hacking slim xbox hacking

Hey Im not new to Xbox flashing been doing it for years but I'm new to slim Xbox hacking. From what I've found out its a lite on 16d4s not sure what dash but will find out.

If my research is right then I should just need an unlocked board and an Xbox 360 USB pro? I flash latest Lt firmware with original key and good to go? Is there anything needed for pulling the key?

Depends on what drive it is (firmware revision, hardware revision brings us no where on the Slims)
If you're lucky and it's an early Slim, you can dump the DVD key and last LTU2 to a replacement PCB (I recommend doing that, not cause I'm a TX fanboy, but to save you the hassle of drilling into a chip and or destroying the PCB)

Yes, dumping can be done with the X360 USB Pro.

Based on what I've read the firmware changes based on what dash you are on. So if I update to latest dash it should 0225. Please let me know if I'm not getting this! Old styles boxes were so much simpler!

If this is old dash and rev 9504 drive you mean I could do this without kamikaze hacks?

I plan on using a replacement unlocked PCB from eBay.

DVD firmware only changed once with 13599 or 13604 (can't specifically remember anymore)
The initial FW version of the drive is what's most valueable about the drive information.

Liteon 7x 8x and 9x all changed to 02510 with the latest dashes.
Yet back when the PMT wasn't around, the 9x required a MRA hack and the 8x v1 could be dumped without any problem.

Anyway, I take it that your Slim is one of the first slims?
If so, then you can go ahead and dump the FW.
However, instead of a unlocked PCB, I'd go for a replacement PCB from TX.
This one will have switches that will allow you to lock/unlock your drive.
It might be a bit more expensive but easier to reflash (if ever needed)

Plus you can use a universal CFW on that drive ;]

its from 07/2010, i haven't opened yet, as haven't found the time nor have i checked the dash version as well. i know about the phats, i flashed many of those, from toshiba to benq to liteon (and i did an mra hack, that was crazy for an amateur like me).

Then it's an early slim.
Crack it open and dump the DVD FW with Jungleflasher ;]
Nothing special has to be done ;p

Phatties (especially now are the simplest to flash)
Slims, I'd favor Xkeys etc instead of DVD flashes for those.

Humm, the only good guide I know is the JF manual that comes with the download of JF.

i assume i could dump the firmware -> spoof key to LT firmware -> write to pcb -> put xbox back together and profit! ?

i think i found an awesome guide on an ISO site for xbox360 and it ends it .com, i frequent that site for news and junk.

and sorry one last question, when i flashed a lite on for a phattie there was instructions to "power off" the drive when really they meant "disconnect a cable from the dvd power connection cable" and it drove me NUTS! do you know if the same applies for the slim when it needs to be power cycled?

I have no clue if the dash will lock it or JF will lock it or whatever...
I'd go for a Replacement PCB for your drive from TX personally tho.
But you can use it yes.
Just pay a lot of the attention to the JF manual ;]

That's basically how it should go yep ;]


Powercycling is just shutting the drive off and on again.
And yep, it's also possible for the slims to get powercyled.

You need to lock it via JF after flashing the firmware. The drive will not work properly with the SPI unlocked. Beware as once you put it on the new firmware and lock the SPI, you will need to unlock it via any winbond hack (i.e. kamakazie). Also the best guide to use to flash any 360 is the JF tutorial.

and i assume once locked, it will need a hack to unlock it, so its a one shot deal...

im going to open it tonight i think and check if its winbond or mxic. i may try the kamikaze hack since i plan on getting a replacement anyway (so nothing to lose ) either way i think i get it now, and again thanks for your fast responses!

First of all, dump your DVD drive firmware before you attempt anything (just to make things safe)
Then I'm going to fall back on the Replacement PCB from TX.
It has a hardware lock so you can unlock it whenever ;]

MS is about to release a new dash so you might wait before flashing your DVD drive ;]

If he is successful with his winbond hack (if needed) all you have to do is touch the hole on the chip with rubbing alcohol on a cotton swab to unlock in the future. Not to take anything from TX, but I'm cheap.

Personally, I hope he's sucessfull with performing the Kamikaze.
But I doubt it personally.

Seen a lot of people fail badly on it.

Seriously, I would take a good dump... of the firmware then attempt to kamakazie. If he fails, then by the LTU2 PCB.

my only concern is if my pc chipset is compatible. it is for the older style boxes so im hoping it will be with this one.

i did an mra hack so i can work carefully with hardware, im very cautious but of course drilling a chip is CRAZY!

and i will dump the firmware, usually i take 3 dumps to confirm its good.

If phatty drives work on it then Slims also will work usually.
