As suggested by others the ps4 or pc is the best route to go this generation, maybe the switch might end up catching upto the ps4 somewhere down the line, but thats still a ways off since nintendo are being stupid with the way they are handling the switch, right now it has a lot of potential, but the lack of VC and new games will hurt the switch if nintendo don't change this soon, if you really want to buy a console then the Ps4 is your best bet, huge library of games, more players, lots of big games coming out this year and next year too, personally for me PC and PS4 have been the best combination this generation, got lots of friends on ps4 so that only adds to the experience.
Reasons why you should ignore the xbone-:
1.All the exclusives its ever going to get are coming to the PC where they'll play 10× better than the xbone, and then theres the timed exclusives bullshit microsoft are doing with the xbone x, its not worth the time and money because when these games come to the other platforms they'll run better and have all the dlc included.
2.Multiplatform games play better on other systems like ps4 and pc, don't listen to the people who say otherwise because I am speaking through experience, the xbone x will not make multiplatform games magically run better on the original xbox one or one s, if anything expect worse performance on these consoles as a way to market the xbox one x.
3.Very limited exclusive genre's, if you want to play forza and halo only each year then go ahead.
4.Its only positive is also its negative, backwards compatibility is fun and all, but why you would want to spend 300$ to play old games is really confusing to me, if you have a ps3 or xbox 360 laying around it completely defeats its only positive, and not to mention the input delay in backwards compatible games due to them running on a emulator its not worth it.
tl;dr stay away from the xbox one, PS4, PC, and switch are much much better alternatives for future proofing.
